led his Garner Road team to the U17 Gold championship.

reclassify. “Be away from home and get used to being on my own and then

for the tournament.

There were six teams from the Empire State at the U16 or U17 level and NYChoops.net had the opportunity to catch four of them in action over the weekend.
There were a number of players who stood out as the top performers.

Yhanni Bartley, Westchester Hawks 16s: A class of 2014 prospect out of Mt.

BWSL Woods, 77-53, to win the U15 Gold championship and Team Takeover
also won the U16 Gold championship with an 82-75 victory over the SC
Raptors Elite. The U17 Gold title went to Garner Road, who beat UA

well-known, Mayimba was terrific in both the semifinals and
championship. A 6’7 combo forward who attends Montrose Christian (MD),
Mayimba is a bouncy player with a great frame. The 2014 prospect
repeatedly sliced right down the lane past defends and to the rim, where
he showed nice body control in air. He handles the ball pretty well and

column against Garner Road- Davis—Morgan finished with 14 points—he made
his presence felt in many aspects of the game. He is a stellar athlete
with major length and that allows him to be a terrific defender. Morgan
blocks shots, gets steals and grabs rebounds. He is also adept at
picking up boards on the offensive end, leading to putback dunks and

Boo Williams in a blowout victory over the Stafford Hoyas to open up the
event. Barber did basically anything he wanted with the ball and was
nearly unstoppable when it came to getting to the rim. He scored at the
basket, hit open teammates for layups, knocked down 3-pointers, and
displayed a nasty crossover. Barber, an elite prospect in the 2013
class, had the look of a top 10 player as he dominated the game from

Leading the way amongst the group is Andrew Wiggins, arguably the best player in the high school ranks regardless of class. A 6'7 small forward from Canada who attends Huntington Prep (WV), Wiggins is a terrific offensive player with his combination of athleticism, handles, shooting ability, and smarts. He has just about everything you look for in a high school player and is only getting better.

While Wiggins has a stranglehold on the top spot at this point, that is no knock on the players just behind him in the rankings. Checking in at No. 2 on the list is Jahlil Okafor, the best center in the country regardless of class (not counting the outgoing 2012 class). A 6'10 kid out of Whitney Young (IL), Okafor has a big frame that he uses well around the cup, heruns the floor and has great touch around the rim. Right behind him, at No. 3, is Emmanuel Mudiay out of Grace Prep (TX). Arguably the best point guard in the nation in any class, Mudiay has a great blend of size (he is 6'4), quickness and skill.

Tyus Jones of Apple Valley (MN) is No. 4 on the list and he too could stake a mighty fine claim to the top point guard spot in America. The 6'1 floor general is an incredible offensive facilitator who can get others involved and also score from just about anywhere on the court. Rounding out the top five in the Spring 2014 Top 50 is Dakari Johnson, a New York native who attends Montverde Academy (FL). The 6'10 center has gotten into great shape and has an impressive combination of length, size and post skills.

The 2014 rankings have been extended from 20 players up to 50. One player has moved into the top 10 this time around and that is 6'4 point guard Jaquan Lyle of Bosse (IN), who is right at No. 10 overall.

Have a look below at the Northstar Basketball Spring 2014 Top 50 to see where things stand with the elite sophomore high school basketball players.

Stars Rank.
