Interest Coming in for Hunting Park Warriors
by Alex Schwartz
Philadelphia is easily one of the most talent-rich cities in America when it comes to basketball. With the deep supply of quality players, there are many good AAU teams from the City of Brotherly Love.
While the Hunting Park Warriors may not be as well-known on a national level, the squad always features some nice prospects, and
this year is no different. Rasool Hajj is a mentor to several of the team's players and he recently provided Northstar Basketball with a recruiting update on a quintet of Warriors in the 2013 class.
David George is a 6'8 power forward who is heading to Blair Academy (NJ) for a post-graduate year. Entering the July Live periods, which start up tomorrow, George (pictured) has offers from Columbia, Brown, Holy Cross, and Colgate, according to Hajj.
Additionally, the big man is receiving interest from Penn, High Point, Davidson, Bucknell, Drexel, UNC-Wilmington, and Richmond. George has yet to go on any college visits, but it seems that he will begin to take trips in August.
Jai Williams, a 6'9 center out of Philadelphia Electrical & Technology Charter, has received several CAA and Atlantic-10 offers. The post player has garnered offers from VCU, La Salle, James Madison, Temple, St. Joe's, and Drexel.
Hajj also said that Williams is getting attention from Villanova, Oklahoma and Charlotte. Thus far, he has been on unofficial visits to four city schools: Temple, St. Joe's, La Salle, and Drexel.
Also hailing from Philadelphia Electrical & Technology Charter is 6'2 point guard Hakeem Baxter. The rising senior is waiting on his first offer, but several schools are expressing interest. Hajj mentioned Iona, Delaware, Drexel, Fairfield, Rider, Quinnipiac, and Norfolk State as programs involved with Baxter.
Thus far, Baxter has been on unofficial visits to four that of the schools that are involved in his recruitment. He has tripped to Delaware, Drexel, Quinnipiac, and Iona.
Like Baxter, 6'3 shooting guard Anthony Durham is also awaiting his opening scholarship offer. However, the Abington (PA) High School standout is being looked at by Niagara, Quinnipiac, LIU, Fairfield, Rider, La Salle, and Stony Brook.
Hajj said that as it stands right now, the only school that Durham has been on a visit to is Quinnipiac.
Jamaree Strickland, a 6'9 center, will be attending Queen City Prep (NC) for a post-graduate year in the fall. He has a lone offer from San Jose State at this point in time. In addition to the Spartans, Hajj noted that Strickland is hearing from San Francisco, Missouri State and CSU Bakersfield.
The only college that has had the opportunity to host Strickland on an unofficial visit thus far is the only one to offer, San Jose State.
"All [of them] will see what offers they have after July and then take it from there," Hajj said.
