Two Schools Standing Out to Russ Woods
by Alex Schwartz
On the final day of the Nike EYBL Session #2 last weekend in Hampton, Va., Russ Woods was one of the most impressive performers. The 6'8 power forward out of Hyde Park (IL) turned in a superb performance in the Mac Irvin Fire's blowout victory against the St. Louis Eagles.
After the game, Woods took the time to talk recruiting. There are a number of schools coming after the athletic frontcourt player from Chicago.
Woods listed scholarship offers from Providence and DePaul to go along with interest from Memphis, Tennessee, Marquette, Michigan State, Purdue, Illinois, Xavier, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Indiana, and Iowa.
"Favorites? I'd probably like Providence," Woods said. "I like Michigan State."
Woods went on an unofficial visit to Nebraska a few weeks ago, but that is the only trip he has taken thus far.
"I wanna visit Providence," Wood said, later adding, "[Iowa] wants me to take a visit."
Woods said that it is "between U of I [Illinois] and Providence" as to who is recruiting him the hardest.
When asked if his list is mostly filled with Midwest schools more by chance or because he wants to stay there for college, Woods responded, "Just kind of by chance. I'd leave, but I wouldn't mind [staying]."
