Josh Newkirk Has a Top Five
by Alex Schwartz
Josh Newkirk is part of a pretty deep crop of point guards in the class of 2013 on a national level and is a player who a number of schools have had an eye on for quite some time.
Northstar Basketball recently caught up with the 6'1 junior out of Word of God Academy (NC) to talk about his recruitment.
Newkirk said that he has a top five that consists of Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Xavier, Ohio State, and Tennessee. He claims scholarship offers from the Yellow Jackets, Wolfpack and Volunteers.
Local schools North Carolina and North Carolina State are the only ones that Newkirk has visited thus far. However, he said that Georgia Tech and Tennessee are the schools recruiting him the hardest.
Newkirk, who does not have a leader right now, said of when he plans to commit, "Probably before my senior year."
Will NC State's proximity to home be a factor for Newkirk? "Yea, but then again I want to get out of town," he said.
Newkirk went on to add that he would indeed "rather go away" from home for his time in college.
