Tennessee Tech-Commit DeOndre Haynes Hearing From Two SEC Schools

by Alex Schwartz

As a nationally ranked prospect, DeOndre Haynes was a major pickup for Tennessee Tech when he committed to the OVC program not long before the early signing period in November.

However, the 6'2 point guard out of Calera (AL) did not sign a Letter of Intent with the Golden Eagles and the #146 ranked player in the Northstar Basketball Post-July 2012 Top 150 remained a verbal commitment.

Haynes recently took the time to discuss where things stand with his pledge to TTU. He first did confirm that he remains committed to the Golden Eagles and said he did not sign a Letter of Intent in the early period for "personal reasons."

So, is Haynes 100% solid to coach Steve Payne's program or is he listening to pitches from other interested schools?

"I'm sure with Tennessee Tech, but Ole Miss and Auburn [have] come into the mix," Haynes said.

Asked if the two SEC programs have extended him scholarship offers, Haynes replied, "No sir, just talking."

As for whether or not he is truly considering the Rebels and Tigers, Haynes remarked, "Depends on if they come [with an offer] or not."

Haynes declined comment when asked if he would decommit from Tennessee Tech if he did indeed pick up an offer from one of those schools.

With just four ranked point guards still uncommitted, DeOndre Haynes' situation will certainly be one to monitor this spring.
