National Preseason High School Top 100- Part One: 76-100
by Alex Schwartz
The college basketball season kicks off for a few teams this evening, while the high school basketball season is right around the corner. Thus, it is
time for Northstar Basketball to release its preseason rankings of the top 100 high school teams in America.
The top 100 list will be released in five segments, plus a comprehensive list at the end with some notes on the rankings. For each team, I will provide an overview of the squad. With each segment, the size of the overview will increase and be filled with more information.
The rankings include both public and private schools, but not prep schools. For these purposes, prep schools are defined as schools that have fifth-year players and/or post-grads, plus all NEPSAC schools. Thus, teams such as Arlington Country Day (FL), Brewster Academy (NH), Christ School (NC), New Hampton (NH), Notre Dame Prep (MA), South Kent (CT), St. Mark's (MA), The Miller School (VA), Tilton School (NH), Vermont Academy (VT), Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC), and Westwind Prep (AZ) are ineligible.
Without further ado, here is the first segment of Northstar Basketball's National Preseason High School Top 100. This segment will include the teams ranked 76 through 100 as well as 20 honorable mentions.
76. Orange Lutheran (CA)- It will be Arizona-commit Gabe York carrying this team, but he will not be alone, as Payton Banks, Darien Williams and Antwon Williams are nice complimentary players.
77. Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN)- The team's best player is sophomore sensation Jalen Lindsey, who teams with Belmont-bound Craig Bradshaw as well as Jake Allsmiler.
78. Bryan (TX)- Texas A&M-pledge J-Mychal Reese is the team's star and go-to player, but the senior will also receive help from teammates such as Chris Johnson and AJ Pulliam.
79. Kimball (TX)- Stud junior guard Keith Frazier recently transferred over and he will join forces with David Tucker and Shannon Lilly on one of the many elite teams in the Lone Star State.
80. Trenton Catholic (NJ)- Penn State-commit Brandon Taylor is the squad's best player, but he has many talented players around him in James Madison-bound Charles Cooke, Dom Reid, Amir Maddred, Mount St. Mary's-pledge Chazz Patterson, and Naz Chew.
81. Pike (IN)- RJ Hunter, who is headed to Georgia State, leads the way for the Hoosier State team and he will be aided by a deep roster that includes Zavier Turner, Johntae Alexander, Kendall Rollins, Nick Rogers, and John Roberts.
82. St. John's College (DC)- This team might get overlooked, but the talent is there primarly in the form of Lennard Freeman and Allante Holston, who are supported by Darian Anderson, Marcus Coates and Soren Dossing.
83. Ridgeway (TN)- Seniors Kordario Fleming and Cameron Golden are the top players for the team from Memphis, while Jonathon Burroughs-Cooke and Adam Weary deserve mention as well.
84. Taft (CA)- Sophomore transfer Shaqquan Aaron and UTEP-bound Anthony January are the top dogs on the Golden State team, but Alessandro Alberto, Steve Jones and Ajon Jefferson are solid in their own right.
85. New London (CT)- The best team in Connecticut is largely a one man squad, as Providence-bound senior Kris Dunn is one of the top point guards in the United States.
86. De La Salle (IL)- The squad from Chicago is led by a quality trio of juniors, in Gavin Schilling and Alex Foster and Alvin Ellis, while Justin Earls is the other key player.
87. Fairfax (CA)- The boys from Cali are deep and talented, featuring a roster that includes Loyola Marymount-bound Taj Adams, Brendyn Taylor, Landon Drew, Reggie Theus, Jr., Amir McCormick, and Chauncey Hill.
88. Orlando Christian Prep (FL)- Coming off a fantastic season, does not have any stars, but does have talent in Kennesaw State-commit Jordan Montgomery, Adonys Henriquez, Drekalo Clayton, Isaac Cohen, Jonathan Joseph, Dmitri Thompson, and Tyquan Merritt.
89. Sylvan Hills (AR)- The lone ranked team from the Natural State is a one man show, but it is a great one, as Kentucky-bound senior Archie Goodwin is on the best players in America.
90. Constitution (PA)- The Philadelphia squad may well outplay this ranking as the senior duo of Savon Goodman and Daiquan Walker is going to be tough for opponents to handle.
91. Olathe Northwest (KS)- The boys from the Jayhawk State are led by a pair of seniors, in star big man Willie Cauley, who is bound for Kentucky, and Shavon Shields, who will attend Nebraska.
92. Trinity (KY)- The team's top player is junior Darryl Hicks, Jr., but he is by no means the only threat the opposition must worry about, as Charles Foster, Boston University-commit Nathan Dieudonne and Troy Saxton are solid too.
93. Detroit Community (MI)- Byron Zeigler and Ramell Robinson are talented juniors with basketball bloodlines, while Deiondray Martin is an early Eastern Michigan commit and Martez Walker is not shabby in his own right.
94. National Christian Academy (MD)- The 2013 duo of Zacarry Douglas and Mike Kobani will lead the way, but Roddy Peters, John Davis and De'Andre Thomas cannot be overlooked.
95. Kemper County (MS)- The only ranked team from Mississippi is led by one of the country's top players in Devonta Pollard, an athletic senior wing capable of dominating a game.
96. Edmond Memorial (OK)- The Woodard brothers, junior Jordan and senior James, a Tulsa commit, will be the anchors for the Sooner State squad, while Jordan Thomas is a factor too.
97. Lone Peak (UT)- A couple of early BYU commits with hoops bloodlines in Nick Emery and TJ Haws are the go-to guys for Utah's top team, while football standout Talon Shumway is solid too.
98. Dunbar (OH)- Hailing from Dayton, this team has a nice, talented roster than includes Teddy Hawkins, Creighton-bound Andre Yates and Gary Akbar in addition to AJ Harris and Damarion Geter.
99. La Salle (OH)- This team had a fantastic year in 2010-11 and is in for another quality go-around, and it will be senior guard Josh Lemons who will be leading the way.
100. Loyola (CA)- Star sophomore point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright is squad's best player, but Penn-bound Julian Harrell is talented player too, and Jacob Hazzard, Justin Childress and Max Hazzard provide some more firepower.
