Ja'Quan Newton Discusses Recruitment
Entering the 2010-11 high school basketball season, Shep Garner was considered by most to be the best 2014 guard in Philadelphia. With the 2011-12 season on the horizon, that is no longer the case, but not because of any struggles Garner has had.
Rather, it has been the emergence of another backcourt star in the City of Brotherly Love that has shaken up the order. That player is Ja'Quan Newton, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard out of Neumann-Goretti (PA).
Newton's extensive offer list before even starting his second season of high school ball is a testament to his talent level.
"I got offers from Georgetown, Miami, Villanova, Rutgers, St. Joe's, Nebraska, and Penn State," Newton told VUSports.com.
Those are not the only college programs showing interest in the sophomore sensation, though.
"Florida, Kansas, Maryland, a lot, there's a lot of schools—Boston College [is another]—schools . . . that came to see me this year [in an] open gym," Newton said.
