Parker & Goodwin Set to Take Visits; UConn Offers Goodwin

by Alex Schwartz

There are currently 13 uncommitted players in the top 25 of the Northstar Basketball Post-July 2012 Top 150. Of those 13 players, 10 of them are big men.

Two of those available top 25 seniors are Tony Parker of Miller Grove (GA) and Shaq Goodwin of Southwest DeKalb (GA). Yesterday evening, Northstar Basketball caught up with both of them to discuss where things stand with their recruitment.

Tony Parker (pictured on left), a 6'9 center, is the #22 ranked player in the class of 2012, fifth at his position. He is the 11th best uncommitted player in the senior class and has numerous basketball blue bloods coming after him.

The Peach State star has five schools that remain in the hunt to land him. Parker said he is still considering Georgetown, Memphis, Duke, Ohio State, and UCLA.

Thus far, Parker has been on official visits to Columbus to check out the Buckeyes and to Los Angeles to learn more about the Bruins. The five-star prospect said via text message that he will officially visit Georgetown on October 22nd and then head to Duke on the 28th.

Parker noted that he will decide "probably sometime this week" when he will be making his official visit to Memphis. He is unsure if that will come before or after his trips to Georgetown and Duke.

In addition to his official visits, Parker said he has "went to Memphis three times and duke twice" for unofficial trips.

Fellow Georgia native Shaq Goodwin (pictured on right), a 6'8 power forward, is ranked one spot behind Parker in Top 150, at #23 overall. He is among the top dozen available players in the 2012 class.

When asked which schools are still in the mix to land him, Goodwin reeled off a list that included UCLA, Georgia, Memphis, Florida, Arizona, and UConn. Goodwin said that UConn "just offered" him a scholarship.

Asked if he has taken any official visits yet, Goodwin replied via text, "None, I take my first official to memphis this weekend."

Goodwin said he has previously taken unofficial trips to Tennessee, Memphis, Georgia, Alabama, and UCLA. He did not list the Volunteers and Crimson Tide as teams he is still considering.

Also a standout football player, Goodwin confirmed that he is still set on playing both sports in college. He also said that all of the schools on his listed are okay with him playing football and basketball.

Goodwin said that he does not have any favorites in his recruitment right now.
