by Alex Schwartz
In addition to speaking with a number of players each day for my daily recaps at NBE Basketball Report as well as a few other articles that have already been posted, there were some other players I also got to catch up with in Orlando. Recruiting updates on four more class of 2012 prospects can be found right here with info on four underclassmen coming soon.
Christian Sanders, a 6'3 shooting guard out of Saint Thomas (TX), is one of the best 3-point shooters in the nation. His Houston Defenders squad knocked off Team Takeover and BABC to win the AAU Super Showcase as Sanders showed what he can do on the hardwood.
Sanders first listed Stanford, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Texas, Kansas, and Colorado. He said all but KU have offered and noted, "That would probably be my top six."
The Texan also mentioned Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech as schools involved with him, but only A&M had offered at that point. He did not list any specific favorites.
On who is coming at him the hardest, Sanders remarked, "Probably Stanford, Maryland, Oklahoma State, and Colorado [are recruiting me] the hardest."
As for when he plans to commit, Sanders said, "I might right when we finish with . . . July, [like in] mid-August [or] late August. I probably will take my officials, not sure."
DeOndre Haynes, a 6'2 point guard from Calera (AL), is a player who may well see his stock rise as coaches get to see more an more of him. A kid who can play both guard spots, Haynes is athletic is quick with the basketball.
Hayes said that he holds offers from Georgia and Morehead State. He was also is hearing from Georgia Tech, Florida State, Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, Nebraska, and more. He said he does not have any favorites in his recruitment.
"I don't know, it would have to be between Florida State and Georgia Tech," Haynes said of who is coming at him the hardest.
Although Haynes had not yet tripped to any schools and had no visits planned when he spoke with Northstar Basketball, he was still trying to move towards a decision.
"I'm trying to make [my decision] as soon as I can [and go] . . . wherever fits me the best," Haynes said.
A teammate of Haynes on the Birmingham Storm, Jacorey Williams of Central Park Christian (AL) is an intriguing prospect. A 6'7 small forward, Williams possesses great size, length and athleticism on the wing to go along with a quality handle.
Williams said that only UTEP, Tulane and Murray State had offered, but he had interest from a number of other schools. He mentioned Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida State, Clemson, and Arkansas, noting that others are involved too.
The Yellowhammer State standout said that he does not have any favorites. In addition, he noted that he has yet to take any trips or plan any either. Williams also said he was unsure of which schools in particular he wanted to visit.
Of who is recruiting him the hardest, Williams said, "I think everybody pretty much [is coming at me at] the same pace right now."
A 6'1 shooting guard from Phillip O'Berry (NC), DaJuan Graf showed off some of his talent with the Charlotte Storm. Graf is not a household, but he is a talented player.
Graf said that he did not hold any scholarship offers, but did mention that Elon, Wofford, Western Carolina, Mercer, and other schools were expressing interest. He claimed no favorites at this stage of his recruitment.
"It was Elon, but I think it's Mercer now," Graf said of who is coming at him the hardest, noting that Elon is the only school he has visited.
As for planned visits, Graf said he was planning to trip to Mercer once he arrived back in Charlotte, N.C. On when he plans to commit, Graf remarked, "It doesn't matter, before school starts or before basketball season begins."
