Multiple Early Offers For 2014 PGs Jones & Richmond

by Alex Schwartz

Tyus Jones and JaQuel Richmond were two of the top performers at the 2011 Nike Peach Jam/EYBL Finals. What makes that so very impressive is that both of them are in the class of 2014.

Tyus Jones, a 6'1 point guard out of Apple Valley (MN), starred at the U17 level with the Howard Pulley Panthers. JaQuel Richmond, a 6'1 point guard out of Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC), led the CP3 All-Stars to the championship game of the U16 age divison.

At the Peach Jam, Jones, who was listed in the Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2014 Top 40 Watch List, said he holds offers from Iowa and Baylor. He also mentioned that Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Arizona, and UCLA were showing interested.

According to MinnesotaPreps.com's Ryan James, Jones (pictured on left) has since added offers from Arizona, Iowa State, Marquette, and Michigan State.

Asked if he has ny early favorites, Jones replied, "Not too much, I'm just trying to take the recruiting process [slowly and] . . . soak it all in."

Only one school has had the opportunity to host Jones on a visit, but he would like to take some more trips soon.

"Just Minnesota, that's the only unofficial visit [I have taken]," Jones said. "I'm trying to take some in August."

As for JaQuel Richmond, he said Virginia Tech, Virginia, Charlotte, and Oklahoma State have all extended offers. VCU, Maryland and Syracuse are the others schools he said are showing interest in him.

Of the schools recruiting him, Richmond said that Syracuse is his favorite, but he noted that Duke is his dream school.

Richmond has yet to take any college visits, but plans to trip to Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State in August. He said that Virginia Tech is the school that is coming after him the hardest at this point.
