Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2013 Top 50

by Alex Schwartz

It is now just two days until the July Live Evaluation Period begins. After releasing the Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2012 Top 100 on Friday, now comes the updated rankings for the class of 2013. An extended 2014 watch list will be up tomorrow so that all three classes have updated lists out prior to the Live period.

It has been over two months since the D1 Hoops Report Class of 2013 Spring Top 40 came out. At that point I did the rankings with Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com. D1HR, which is the scouting service run by myself and Borzello, is still up and running, but this time around our rankings will be separate due to his work at CBSSports.com.

The three players atop the list are from two of the most talent rich states in the class of 2013. Leading the way at the number one spot this time around is Julius Randle, an ultra skilled 6'8 power forward out of Prestonwood Christian (TX). He may well be the best player in the nation regardless of class.

Jabari Parker, a 6'7 small forward from Simeon (IL), nearly took the top spot and he too has a great claim as the best player in not only the 2013 class, but as the best high schooler in America. There is not much of a gap between Randle and Parker, a big wing with a refined skill set who is the son of ex-NBA player Sonny Parker.

At the three spot is Andrew Harrison, a 6'5 point guard from Travis (TX), who teams with Randle to give the state of Texas two players in the top three. A floor general with great height for the position, Harrison can take it to the rim, shoot it from deep and also distribute. His twin brother Aaron is ranked in the top 10 as well.

At number four is Nerlens Noel, the tallest player on the list and possibly best shot blocker in the country regardless of class. The 6'11 center out of the Tilton School (NH) is a terrific interior defender with great length and developing offensive arsenal. Rounding out the top five is Archbishop Mitty (CA) star Aaron Gordon, a highlight reel dunker. The 6'7 power forward is a big-time athlete with terrific scoring ability.

Have a look below at the Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2013 Top 50 and check back tomorrow for the 2014 watch list.
