Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2012 Top 100

by Alex Schwartz

The July Live Evaluation Period is just five days away. That means it is time to update the player rankings after having seen guys perform over the course of the spring.

In late April the D1 Hoops Report Class of 2012 Spring Top 75 was released. At that point I did the rankings with Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com. While D1HR—the scouting service run by myself and Borzello—is still alive and well, this time around our rankings will be separate due to his obligations at CBSSports.com. However, Borzello was kind enough to provide a bit of input for for the Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2012 Top 100.

The top three players remain the same as they did two-plus months ago, with 6'9 center DaJuan Coleman of Jamesville-DeWitt (NY) atop the list. An absolute beast down low, Coleman is the complete package for a high school big man.

Right on his tail was Shabazz Muhammad, an athletic 6'6 small forward out of Bishop Gorman (NV). He too has a strong case for the top spot and it is a tight battle between them at this point. At number three is the best long-term prospect in the class, 6'11 power forward Andre Drummond out of St. Thomas More (CT). The big man has all the tools and if he puts it all together and improves his consistency, he too may be able to stake claim as the top player in the land.

Rodney Purvis, a 6'4 shooting guard from Upper Room Christian Academy (NC), checks in at number four. Arguably the best pure socrer in the country, Purvis is nearly impossible to stop. The fifth spot is filled by Mitch McGary, a 6'10 power forward from Indiana who attends Brewster Academy (NH). Strong and powerful, McGary boosted his stock as much as any player in the nation this spring.

Without further ado, have a look at the Northstar Basketball Pre-July 2012 Top 100. Stay tuned for class of 2013 and class of 2014 rankings in the next few days.
