Tigers Tracking 2012 Guards Hunt & York

by Alex Schwartz

One of the top programs in the nation since the turn of the century, Memphis has not only played like a high-major program, but also recruited like one. Despite recently losing out on rising-senior shooting guard Jordan Adams, the Tigers are in on some big-time talent in the class of 2012.

For proof, all anyone needs to do is see how many players at the elite NBPA Top 100 Camp listed the Tigers. Add in the fact that Memphis-commit Damien Wilson was in attendance, and there were many players seriously considering the Tigers at the event. Two of those players were class of 2012 prospects Marcus Hunt of North Clayton (GA) and Gabe York of Orange Lutheran (CA).

A 6-foot-6, 212-pound small forward, Marcus Hunt has nearly 20 scholarship offers. He rattled off that included Georgetown, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, Georgia State, East Carolina, Nebraska, Tennessee, VCU, Alabama, Memphis, UMass, and UTEP.

Hunt noted that a few other schools have offered as well and mentioned that he is also receiving interest from UConn, Pitt and Kansas. On whether any schools are standing out, Hunt remarked, “I don’t have any favorites right now.”
