Nevada HS Stars Bennett & Allen Remain Open

The state of Nevada is by no means known as a hoops hotbed. However, with the meteoric rise of Findlay Prep (NV) over the past handful of years, there has been an influx of talent from other states coming to Nevada to suit up for the Pilots. Combine that with the the stacked roster of in-state players at Bishop Gorman (NV) and there is a great deal of talent in the Silver State these days.

As many as eight class of 2012 players in Nevada could end up at high-major Division I programs. Four them were on display at the 2011 NBPA Top 100 Camp, including Findlay Prep's Anthony Bennett and Bishop Gorman's Rosco Allen. Both of them took the time to discuss their recruitment with Northstar Basketball.

Anthony Bennett (pictured on left), a 6'7 power forward, has been one of the spring's biggest stock boosters. That was evidenced by him receiving the Breakout Performer award at the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

The big man listed scholarship offers West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Georgetown, UConn, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Arizona, UNLV, Kentucky, and North Carolina State. In addition, he has heard from Duke, and more recently, North Carolina.

The athletic inside-outside threat said that he does "not really, not right now" have any favorites. However, he did say that Florida, North Carolina State, UNLV, Kentucky, and Pitt are coming after him the hardest.

As for visits, Bennett said he has "seen a couple games" at West Virginia and been to the local school, UNLV. He does not have any visits planned at this point.

"Next spring," Bennett said of when he plans to commit. "And [I will] probably make a top five by the end of summer."

Bennett, who helped lead his team to the NBPA Camp championship, said that he will definitely be signing in the late period. The big man finished 11th in scoring at camp at 12.1 points per game, scoring 9+ in all six of his outings, with his three highest outputs (20, 12 and 12) coming in the three playoff games.

Rosco Allen, a 6'8 small forward, also made it to the camp championship game and he too dropped 12 points in the final. However, Allen's team lost the game by a point.

Nonetheless, Allen (pictured on right) still had a solid showing at NBPA Camp, putting up 9.3 points per game, tied for 23rd overall. Two of his top three scoring outputs came in the three playoff games, so he too picked up his play when most needed.

As far as his school list goes, Allen remarked, "[I have] offers from about 22 schools, ranging from the Pac-10 to North Carolina and then UNLV, Utah and then a couple others from the WCC."

Allen said that he has offers from the whole Pac-12 except for Washington and noted that the first school to offer him a scholarship was Arizona State.

The versatile forward said his most recent offer came from North Carolina, adding that the Tar Heels offered "about a month and a half ago."

Allen said that he does "not yet" have any favorites and also mentioned that location will "not really" play a factor in his decision.

"I'll be making a list before the July open period starts and I'd like to make a decision whenever I feel comfortable with the school, whenever that is," Allen said of his commitment timetable.
