2014 Guard, Shep Garner

by Alex Schwartz

In its first 16 years of existence, the Rasual Butler All-City Classic has included future NBA players such as Kobe Bryant, Tyreke Evans, Richard Hamilton, Jameer Nelson, and Jason Thompson. It is certainly too early to tell which players from this year's event will one day join that list, but there is no question that there was some major talent on display at Benjamin Franklin High School yesterday evening.

One of the most highly-touted young players in participation was 6-foot-1, 181-pound combo guard Shep Garner of Roman Catholic (PA). In the opening contest, the Freshman (2014) Game, Garner was second on his team in scoring with 14 points in a defeat. Afterwards, he spoke with VUSports.com about his recruitment and more.

Garner said that he has no scholarship offers at this point, but listed Pitt, North Carolina, Florida, Xavier, Rutgers, Villanova, and Syracuse as the schools that have shown interest. He has no favorites right now, though he did grow up rooting for UNC. Garner noted that he has yet to take any visits and has none planned.
