2013 Top 35 Trio Update Recruitment

by Alex Schwartz

Five players in the D1 Hoops Report Class of 2013 Spring Top 40 were on display at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. Northstar Basketball had the chance to see four of them play and speak with three of them to discuss their recruitment.

The trio that I had the the opportunity to catch up with were #18 ranked 6'0 point guard Solomon Poole, #27 ranked 6'7 power forward Isaiah Hicks and #35 ranked 6'8 center Kennedy Meeks. Poole was with in the U17 division with the Dwight Howard Warriors, while Hicks and Meeks were playing U16 with Garner Road and Team United, respectively.

Solomon Poole (pictured on left) of Terry Parker (FL) is the younger brother of Kentucky wing Stacey Poole, Jr. and the son of former Florida star Stacey Poole. A talented player in his own right, Poole is hearing from a number of high-major programs.

Poole claims scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Central Florida, and South Florida. He said that he was not entirely sure which other schools had offered and also noted that the Gamecocks were the first program to offer . Poole said he is receiving interest from Providence, Florida, Arizona, Memphis, Oklahoma State, and others.

At this point, Poole has yet to take any unofficial visits and also has no trips in particular planned. On when he plans to make his decision, Poole remarked, "I guess I'm gonna wait."

Asked whether he would be interested in attending Kentucky and playing with his brother for a year, Poole responded, "Yeah, if he's still there that's a definite chance."

Isaiah Hicks (pictured on right) was one of the top performers at the Bob Gibbons TOC, regardless of class. The Body of Christ Academy (NC) star led the way in his team's run to the U16 National crown.

Although it is early in his recruitment, it is still somewhat surprising that Hicks said he has just two scholarship offers. North Carolina State and Virginia Tech are the two programs he listed offers from at this point in time.

Hicks mentioned that he is also hearing from North Carolina and Clemson, as well as other schools he could not remember off the top of his head. The long, athletic big man said he has the UNC Tar Heels as the leader in his recruitment right now.

Kennedy Meeks (pictured on left) of West Charlotte (NC) is an imposing interior presence and he knows how to use his size to his advantage. The big man was key in Team United winning the U16 Select division at the Bob Gibbons TOC.

Miami, North Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State are the six schools Meeks said he holds offers from. He also said that he is garnering interest from Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, Georgetown, and Louisville.

To date, Meeks said that he has taken visits to South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Clemson, adding that he plans to visit North Carolina State and Maryland in July.

"Probably NC State, Virginia Tech, Miami, [and] Georgetown," Meeks said of who his favorites schools are at this time.
