The Jones-Anderson Scenario
by Alex Schwartz
Word came out on Monday that New York City native Lamont "MoMo" Jones was transferring from Arizona.
The 6-foot point guard averaged 9.7 points and 2.4 assists as a sophomore this past season, helping lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
There was immediate speculation on Monday that Jones would transfer to St. John's. There have been varying reports today as far as whether or not Jones is indeed headed to the Big Apple to suit up for the Red Storm.
What does seem to be clear is that there is a legitimate possibility that Jones does land at St. John's. In addition, reports indicate that he may well apply for a waiver to avoid sitting out for a year.
While Jones would fill immediate needs for the Red Storm in terms of both position and experience, there is also the question of how he would impact elite 2012 recruit Kyle Anderson. The top ranked point guard and #4 overall player in the recently updated Rivals 150, Anderson has not been shy about publicly expressing his interest in the Red Storm.
At 6-foot-8, Anderson is listed as a point guard and would like to play the one at the next level, though some feel he is best suited at a forward spot. He starred down low as a big man this past season in his first year at St. Anthony's (NJ) and helped lead the Friars to the mythical national championship.
