Commitment Catch-up

Needless to say, I have been quite busy with rankings over the past couple weeks and will be for another several days. Thus, I wanted to take the time to update the commitments of the past week or so since my last update.

In the days since that post went up, the rankings for the class of 2011, the 2011 post-grads and the 2012 class have been released. The 2013 and 2014 lists will be coming soon and once they are up I will be back in the normal groove of posting, but until then, a rundown of the recent pledges and decommitments from the high school hoops world can be found below.

- Jarion Henry (pictured on left), a 6'8 small forward from Kimball (TX), committed to New Mexico, per multiple reports. He is the #92 ranked player in the class of 2011 and was one of the five best available players.

- The #6 ranked post-grad in the country, 6'1 point guard Eli Carter of Brewster Academy (NH), pledged to Rutgers, per ZagsBlog.

- Kansas State got commitments from a pair of JuCo players in 6'1 point guard Jeremy Jones of Seward County CC (KS) and 6'8 power forward James Watson of Crowley County (KS). The Jones news is per ESPN's Dave Telep and the Watson news is from JuCoRecruiting.com.

- Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) 6'8 power forward Eric Katenda pledged to Notre Dame, per Rivals' Eric Bossi.

- According to multiple reports, 5'7 point guard Kiwi Gardner of Westwind Prep (AZ) pledged to Providence. You can read my article on his commitment Here.

- Dave Telep broke the news that Towson landed a pledge from 6'5 small forward Deon Jones of Sanford School (DE).

- Within days of getting his release from Bradley, 6'4 shooting guard Remy Abell of Eastern (KY) committed to Indiana, per Jody Demling of The Courier-Journal.

- Loyola Marymount garnered a pledge from Taft (CA) 6'5 small forward CJ Blackwell, per Bob Gottlieb's Twitter page.

- Kareem Storey, a 6'0 point guard out of Princeton Day Academy (MD), popped to Utah, per Josh Gershon of Scout.

- A pair of players pledged to the Iowa Hawkeyes this week, in 6'5 JuCo shooting guard Anthony Hubbard
of Frederick CC (MD) and 6'10 center Gabe Olaseni of Sunrise Christian Academy (KS). JuCoRecruiting.com had the scoop on Hubbard, while Eric Bossi provided the news of Olaseni's pledge.

- From the JuCo ranks, Northwest Florida State JC landed a pair of superb commitments. Head coach Steve Forbes stated on his Twitter account that 6'2 shooting guard Charles Eaton of Selma (AL) had inked with the school. The major coup for Forbes, though, was landing the #93 ranked player in the nation, 5'8 point guard Chris Jones (pictured on right) of Melrose (TN), who had signed with Tennessee (where Forbes was an assistant), but will now go JuCo. The new on Jones came from Jason Smith of The Commercial Appeal.

- Another top 150 player who will not be attending the school he signed with is 6'4 shooting guard Bobby Parks, Jr. from the Philippines. According to Ballers Pinas, Parks is playing for National University in the Philippines.

- Per New England Prep Stars, Iowa State landed a pledge from Aaron Law, a 5'11 point guard from Tilton School (NH).

- Oklahoma added one JuCo prospect in 6'10 center Casey Arent of Sierra CC (CA) and released another one, 6'9 power forward Robert Goff of Hutchinson JC (KS), from his LOI. The news on Arent is from GregSwaim.com and the news on Godd comes from FOXSports.com's Jeff Goodman.

- Mervyn Lindsay, a 6'5 shooting guard out of Moreno Valley (CA), became the ninth member of Texas Tech's recruiting class. The news of his commitment came from West Coast Hoops Report.

- Per Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop, 6'1 point guard Chris Martin of St. Patrick's (NJ) selected the Marshall Thundering Herd.

- Guy Landry, a 6'5 JuCo small forward from Midland JC (TX), committed to Gonzaga, per mywesttexas.com.

- According to ZagsBlog, Rider added a commitment from 6'7 power forward Junior Fortunat of Roman Catholic (PA).

- In news that was broken by Alex Kline and confirmed to me by a pair of sources, 6'8 power forward Casey Carroll of Kiski School (PA) pledged to Drexel.

- UMES landed a commitment from 6'3 shooting guard Ishaq Pitt (pictured on left) of Evelyn Mack Academy (NC), in news reported by NJHoops. Pitt is a graduate of St. John Vianney (NJ).

- Anthony Anderson, a 6'5 shooting guard from West Boca Raton (FL), decided to attend a JuCo next year. According to Jeff Borzello of Busting the Bracket, Anderson signed with Midland JC (TX).

- Another player going the JuCo route is 6'9 center Keith Coleman of Lee Academy (ME), who is headed to Marshalltown CC (IA). I am not exactly sure when this decision was made, but I noticed it this week while perusing New England Recruiting Report.

- A few months after getting his release from Florida Atlantic, 6'2 shooting guard Brett Comer of Winter Park (FL) pledged to Florida Gulf Coast, per FLRecruitScoop.

- One-time UConn point guard, 6'2 Darius Smith, is now headed to Eastern Illinois after a JuCo year at College of Southern Idaho. The news comes from Windy City Basketball.

- Indiana Faithful, a 6'4 point guard from St. Thomas More (CT), is off the board to Wofford, per ESPN.

- Wyoming has landed a tri of commitments in the past several days. First and foremost it was Quality Education Academy (NC) 6'10 center Lekan Ajayi  to pop to the Cowboys, per ZagsBlog. The other two pledges came from 5'9 JuCo point guard Derrious Gilmore of Jones County (MS) and 6'1 point guard Riley Grabau of Boulder (CO), both per Duffy Hoops.

- In addition to Ajayi, another pair of players from QEA came off the board, as both 6'7 power forward Dwight Meikle and 6'5 shooting guard Keron Brown committed to Hampton. Meikle's commitment came days after being released from his LOI to St. John's. The news of both commitments is from Hoopniks.

- Southern Miss now has six commitments in its 2011 class and five are from JuCo players after adding 5'11 point guard Neil Watson of Coffeyville CC (KS) and 6'5 shooting guard Rashard McGill of Tallahassee CC (FL). The news of Watson's commitment comes from the MOKAN Elite Twitter page, while McGill's commitment comes from multiple outlets, including gulflive.com.

- Northern Illinois landed a pledge from De La Salle (IL) 6'6 small forward Dre Henley (pictured on right), per Michael O'Brien of YourSeason.

- According to New England Prep Stars, Northeastern landed 6'1 point guard Marco Banegas of Brimmer & May (MA).

- Duffy Hoops had the news that Warren Gillis, a 6'1 shooting guard from Rise Academy (PA), committed to Coastal Carolina.

- Danny Herrera, a 6'6 shooting guard out of Doral Academy (FL), pledged to Duquesne, per FLRecruitScoop.

- According to NJHoops, St. Francis (PA) garnered a commitment from 6'1 shooting guard Stephon Whyatt of St. Peter's Prep (NJ).

- Quinnipiac added a pair of players of late, as 6'3 shooting guard Evan Conti of Holy Cross (NY) and 6'2 shooting guard Nate Gause of Poughkeepsie (NY) both opted for the Bobcats. The news of Conti's commitment is from multiple outlets, while a source close to the situation informed me of Gause's decision.

- Scott Phillips of The Basketball Report had the news that 5'11 point guard Kwai Pearson of Whitney Young (IL) was off the board to Cal State Bakersfield.

- Fresno State landed 6'2 shooting guard Julius Bilbrew of Inglewood (CA), per ESPN.

- According to Collegiate Hoops, St. Bonaventure got a commitment from Tra'Vaughn White, a 5'10 point guard out of Washington (KS).

- Colorado State dipped into Florida to garner a pledge from 6'0 point guard Cody Mann of Dr. Krop, per Florida Hoops.

- Hartford added two pledges according to ESPN picking up commitments from 6'3 shooting guard Corbin Wroe of Australian Institute of Sport and 6'6 power forward Nate Sikma of Bellevue (WA).

- Kevin Bleeker, a 6'10 power forward from Holland, is off the board to Canisius, per Rodney McKissic of BuffaloNews.com.

- According to highmajorscoop.com, 5'10 point guard Ricky Johnson of St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH) is headed to Bethune-Cookman.

- UC-Riverside landed 6'1 shooting guard John Gilliam of Upland (CA), per ESPN.

- Per 43 Hoops Basketball Academy, 6'4 shooting guard Raijon Kelly (pictured on left) of Cretin-Derham Hall (MN) is off the board to Samford.

- Michael Hale, a 5'10 JuCo point guard from North Idaho College, is headed to UT-San Antonio, according to JuCoRecruiting.com.

- Mark Miller of WisSports.net reported that 6'7 JuCo power forward Terrell Parks of Iowa Central CC committed to Western Illinois.

- Arlon Harper, a 6'2 shooting guard from Woodward Academy (GA), pledged to Charleston Southern according to Dan McDonald's Twitter page.

- TexasHoops.com reported that Denver received a commitment from 6'3 small forward Cameron Griffin of Judson (TX).

- I found out from the guys at  GoUWM.com that UW-Milwaukee inked 6'7 JuCo power forward Demetrius Harris of Mineral Area CC (MO) and 6'2 shooting guard Paris Gulley of Southeastern CC (IA),

- Jacksonville landed 6'3 point guard Evin Graham of Ft. Myers (FL), per ASunScoop.

- Kris Gulley, a 6'7 small forward from Independence CC (KS), is off the board to Long Beach State, per TexasHoops.com.

- According to Windy City Basketball, San Jose State received a commitment from Jay Kinney, a 6'1 JuCo point guard from Eastern Utah CC.

- According to Scout's Evan Daniels, New Mexico State picked up commitments from bothers Emery and Jim Coleman of Tularosa (NM). Emery, a 6'4 shooting guard who committed one day before his brother, is in the class of 2011. Jim, a 6'5 shooting guard, is in the class of 2013.

- Purdue landed the fourth member of its 2013 class, gaining a pledge from Bullitt East (KY) 6'8 power forward Derek Willis (pcitured on right), per Jody Demling.

- Scout's Brian Snow had the news that Xavier received a commitment from 6'8 power forward James Farr of Evanston Township (IL), who will do a post-grad year and year and be a member of the 2012 class.

- Alex Kline reported that Drake picked up a pledge from 6'2 class of 2012 point guard Micah Mason of Highlands (PA).

- Brian Snow had the news that 5'11 point guard Chris Harrison-Docks of Okemos (MI) was off the board to Butler as a member of the class of 2012.

- It was also Brian Snow who had the news that North Dakota State landed a pledge from Brett VandenBergh, 6'5 class of 2012 shooting guard from De Pere (WI).

- According to NJHoops, Tyuan Williams and Jordan Quick, teammates at St. Anthony's, both committed committed to Division II LIU-CW Post. Williams, a 6'5 small forward, and Quick, a 5'9 point guard, are ranked #38 and #42, respectively, in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2011 New Jersey Fab 50.

- Also headed the DII route is 6'0 point guard Mike Rotando of Pt. Pleasant Beach (NJ). A honorable mention in the 2011 New Jersey Fab 50, Rotanado committed to Bloomfield.

- Long-time UNLV-commit Grandy Glaze, a 6'6 power forward from Notre Dame Prep (MA), received his release from the Mountain West program, per Flagrant Fouls. The native of Canada is now one of the best available players in the class of 2011.

- Another 2011 player who received a release from his LOI is 6'7 power forward Paul Gombwer of Montverde Academy (FL), who had been signed to Colgate. That news is from FLRecruitScoop.

- According to reports, class of 2012 6'10 center Josip Mikulic of North Broward Prep (FL), has decommitted from North Carolina State.
