Talking With God's Gift

by Alex Schwartz

His name is God's Gift, but will he be a gift for the St. John's Red Storm in the April signing period?

While that remains to be seen, the Johnnies are certainly strongly in the mix to land 6-foot-8, 235-pound God's Gift Achiuwa of Erie CC (NY).

A combo forward who sees himself as "more of a three," Achiuwa is one of the few remaining targets for Steve Lavin and his staff. A native of Nigeria who came to the United States 18 months ago, Achiuwa has been playing basketball for just six years.

Although new to the game, his talent level has attracted interest from a number of high-major programs, but only a few have made his final list.

"Just three colleges for now: St. John's, Cincinnati and Washington," Achiuwa said of the programs he is considering. "None of them stand out, they are all [equal]. I like all of the schools . . . they are the top three."
