Leaders Emerge for Jarion Henry & Dominique McKoy

by Alex Schwartz

While at Friday's practice for the Jack Jones Shootout all-star game participants, I had the opportunity to catch up with the two uncommitted players in attendance. Both players have a top five with two or three schools standing out the most at this point.

Dominique McKoy of South Atlanta (GA) is one of just 10 uncommitted players in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150. The 6'7 power forward is ranked #143 on the list and is one of the best available players in the country.

"Right now my top five is Rhode Island, La Salle, New Mexico, Tulane, and Oregon State," McKoy said. He claims offers from all five schools on his list.

Asked if he has any leaders, McKoy responded, "I'd probably say . . . Rhode Island, La Salle and New Mexico."

A versatile player who can play multiple positions, McKoy has yet to visit any of the five schools. While he does not have a timetable for a commitment, he did, "[I will] probably end up committing sometime next month, April."

McKoy has already scheduled a visit to the La Salle campus and is "supposed to schedule" trips to both Rhode Island and New Mexico as well.

Jarion Henry, a 6'8 small forward, is not in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150, but there is a strong chance he will break into the rankings on the final list. A versatile athlete out of Kimball (TX), Henry is another one of the best uncommitted seniors.

Georgetown, New Mexico, Oregon, Marquette, and USC comprise Henry's college list at this point. "That's like the ones I'm interested in," he said.

Other schools have made an attempt to get involved with the Lone Star State standout, but he has opted to just go with that group of five.

"Texas Tech called the other day, since they got the new coach," Henry said. "There were a lot more, [but I] told my coach, 'No.' [Schools like] Baylor, UT  [Texas]."

Henry, who said "probably April" when asked when he plans to commit, has a pair of schools that are standing out to him the most.

"Right now it's Georgetown and New Mexico," Henry said of his leaders. While he has not taken any college visits yet, that may well be changing soon.

"No, next week I'm gonna be setting up some visits," Henry said. "Probably Georgetown and New Mexico."

You can watch McKoy and Henry as well as 16 others in the Jack Jones Shootout on Sunday at 1:30pm. The game will be shown by High School Sports Network, and I will be doing play-by-play for the broadcast. Other standouts in the game include top 50 prospects BJ Young, Nick Johnson, Rashad "Ky" Madden, and Hunter Mickelson.
