Roster Notes
- Here is the positonal breakdown: seven power forwards, six shooting guards, four point guards, four small forwards, and three centers.
- No one in the game is shorter than 6-foot and only one player is 7-feet tall.
- Based off where players attend high school, 18 different states are represented: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North
Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
- There are four states with multiple representatives in the game: Georgia and Illinois each have two, while Indiana and Virginia each have three.
- No high school produced more than one player in the game.
- The breakdown between players attending public/magnet high schools and private/prep schools is even, with 12 and 12.
- Of the 12 players who do not attend public schools, four of them go to schools that have fifth year and post graduate players.
- There are 15 colleges with committed players in the game: Duke, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Syracuse, and Texas.
- Six of the colleges represented have multiple commits in the game: Louisville, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Syracuse each have two, while Duke has three, and Kentucky has four.
- Six different conferences are represented by the selected players: ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, C-USA, and SEC.
- Five of the represented conferences have more than one players headed to the conference in the game: the Big 12 has two, the Big Ten has four, the ACC and Big East have five each, and the SEC has seven.
- The Pac-10 is the only BCS conference without a committed player in the game.
- There is only one player going to a non-BCS school in the game, and he is headed to Memphis of the C-USA.
- All 24 players in the game have already committed to and signed with a college.
- Six players in the game will play their collegiate basketball in the state of Kentucky, as four are going to Kentucky and two are going to Louisville. The only other state with multiple college having committed players in the game is North Carolina, which will bring in five players, as three are going to Duke and two to North Carolina.
- Depending on how you look at it, three or four AAU programs produced multiple selections. Expressions Elite (MA), Indiana Elite/Team Indiana, and Team Final (PA) all had two players selected. In addition, the Georgia Blazers had one core member selected plus a second player who was added when his team, the Southern Kings (GA), combined to form one team with the Blazers.
Rankings* Notes
*based off the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150
- The highest ranked player not selected was #2 Baylor-signee
Quincy Miller of Westchester Country Day (NC). He tore his ACL early in the high school season and was ineligible because he did not play in 50% of his team's games.
- Two other top 20 ranked players were ineligible for the game because they are in their fifth year of high school: #15 uncommitted DeAndre Daniels of IMG Academy (FL) and #19 Duke-signee Michael Gbininje of Benedictine (VA).
- Three other players in the top 20 were not selected for the game: #11 Oregon-signee Jabari Brown of Oakland (CA), #13 Arkansas-signee BJ Young of McCluer North (MO), and #16 Washington-bound Tony Wroten, Jr. of Garfield (WA).
- The other top 25 players who did not make the game are #22 Arizona-signee Nick Johnson of Findlay Prep (NV), #23 College of Charleston-signee Adjehi Baru, and #24 St. John's-signee JaKarr Sampson of Brewster Academy (NH).
- Nine of the top 10 players in the nation (all but the ineligible Miller) made the game, as did the #7 player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2012 Top 50, Khem Birch, who reclassified back to 2011 after the rankings were released. He will be in the top 10 of the 2011 class when we update the rankings.
- Not including Birch, 14 of the top 20 players made the game, as did 15 of the top 25 and 19 of the top 30.
- Eight players ranked outside the top 25 were selected, including five outside of the top 30.
- Two players from outside the top 45 in the rankings made the game, one of whom is not ranked in the top 100.
- The four point guards who made the game are ranked 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th at the position.
- The six shooting guards who made the game are ranked 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th, and 10th at the position.
- The four small forwards who made the game are ranked 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th at the position. The 2nd and 5th ranked small forwards were ineligible.
- The six power forwards who made the game (not counting Khem Birch, the #3 PF in 2012) are ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th at the position.
- The three centers who made the game are ranked 1st, 2nd, and 12th at the position.
Biggest Snubs
- Scout's Brian Snow wrote that part of the reason #11 Jabari Brown may not have made the game was his midyear transfer from Findlay Prep (NV) to Oakland (CA) last year.
A huge factor in #13 BJ Young's omission was likely his major academic issues. As for #16 Tony Wroten, Jr., some question his attitude and some are just not as high on him as a player as others.
- Jabari Brown was undoubtedly the biggest snub from the game and, at #11, is actually ranked a full 100 spots above one of the game's participants.
- There were six players in my list of selections who were not selected to the game: #11 Jabari Brown, #13 BJ Young, #16 Tony Wroten, Jr., #22 Nick Johnson, #23 Adjehi Baru, and #24 JaKarr Sampson.
- There were five other players who I strongly considered, but did not select for my list: #21 St. John's-signee D'Angelo Harrison of Dulles (TX), #29 Virginia Tech-signee Dorian Finney-Smith of IC Norcom (VA), #31 Arizona-signee Josiah Turner of Quality Education Academy (NC), #32 Mississippi State-signee Rodney Hood of Meridian (MS), and #33 Xavier-signee Dezmine Wells of Hargrave Military Academy (VA).
- The committee opted to go with 10 big men despite the lack of frontcourt depth in the class, and therefore deserving guards and wings were kept out of the game.
