Ledo Back on the Market; Grennan to Seton Hall

by Alex Schwartz

A pair of Big East schools got some recruiting news in the past several days. For one, it was a the decommitment of a big-time prospect. For the other it was the addition of a player to the school's 2011 class.

Ricardo Ledo, a 6'6 shooting guard, is the #6 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2012 Top 50. In late December, Ledo verbally committed to the Providence Friars, just days after saying he had no favorites. Not long after his pledge to PC, Ledo transferred from South Kent (CT) to Notre Dame Prep (MA), his fourth high school in four years, as he previously reclassified.

A bit more than a month after pledging to Keno Davis and his staff, Ledo has reopened his recruitment. On Monday afternoon at 1:09pm he posted on his Twitter account, "So world I have some news."

Seven minutes later, Ledo provided the new of his decision, also via Twitter. "I'm no longer a providence friar I decided to open my recruitment back up and view my other options," he posted.

The loss of Ledo is a major one for the Friars, as it would be for any program. It hurts even more for PC, though. Not only is Ledo one of the best scorers in the country regardless of class, and actually lives in Providence, only three to five minutes from the school.

It is very rare for a player to recommit to a school he has previously decommitted from, though it has happened before. In fact, top 20 ranked class of 2010 prospect CJ Leslie did just that with North Carolina State. So, although not all hope is lost for Friars fans, the more likely destination is someplace besides the Big East school.

Before committing to Providence, a pair of schools in the Bluegrass State, Kentucky and Louisville, were being mentioned a lot with Ledo. Scout's Evan Daniels posted on his Twitter account to watch out for those two schools, amongst others, with Ledo back on the board.

In an interesting development in the past couple of hours though, Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com stated on Twitter that he has heard that Louisville will not pursue Ledo this time around. This is a surprising tidbit, as we all had every reason to believe exactly what Daniels said, but things do change in the recruiting game.

Some other schools not aforementioned to keep an eye out in the recruitment of Ricardo Ledo include UConn, Florida, and Syracuse.

Two days before Providence lost its prized commitment, Kevin Willard the first year Seton Hall staff landed their first in-state prospect. Although Garden State native Fuquan Edwin is a freshman at SHU now, he committed to the Pirates when Bobby Gonzalez was the head coach.

According to a number of reports, 6'2 shooting guard Sean Grennan of Monsignor Donovan (NJ) verbally committed to Seton Hall. Grennan, the #20 ranked player in Northstar Basketball's New Jersey Class of 2011 Top 50, was previously committed to Davidson, but was denied admission to the elite academic school, according to NJHoops.

Grennan is the fourth commitment for Seton Hall in the class of 2011. Interestingly, all four of the pledges are backcourt players, so the Big East program will have some nice guard play to build around.

Grennan joins 6'2 point guard Aaron Cosby of Northfield Mt. Hermon (MA), 6'2 shooting guard Freddie Wilson of Hillhouse (CT), and 6'5 shooting guard Haralds Karlis of Canaries Basketball Academy in the SHU class.
