Checking in with Hilliard
Darrun Hilliard, a 6-foot-5, 190-pounder, is the Villanova signee with the least fanfare of this year's haul for the Wildcats, but he is certainly a talented player. The wing from Liberty (PA) showed his future head coach Jay Wright what he can do in his game last week.
Coach Wright looked on as Hilliard led his team to a 58-40 victory over Lower Merion (PA) in the Scholastic Play-by-Play's Nelson Classic at Gwynedd Mercy College. Hilliard scored 23 points in the game and hit all nine of his free throws. His 15 first half points helped Liberty jump out to a big lead.
VUSports.com was there for the game and had a chance to speak with Hilliard after the resounding victory.
"Feels good, coach Wright is a great coach, a phenomenal coach," Hilliard said of how it felt to play in front of Wright. "Feels good to know that he took time out of his day, to know I'm one of his guys, and was a blessing to me."
