Jerrett & Cooper to Arizona; Golden to Dartmouth

by Alex Schwartz

It has been fairly quiet on the commitment front over the past few weeks, but a couple of big-time juniors did make their verbal commitments, as did a few other players.

As I previously wrote, Savon Goodman of Academy of the New Church (PA), the #32 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2012 Top 50 made his commitment to Villanova.

Goodman, though, was not the highest ranked player in his class to commit recently. That would be 6'8 power forward Grant Jerrett of La Verne Lutheran (CA), the #12 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2012 Top 50. The big man committed to Arizona according to multiple reports.

With #7 ranked Khem Birch of Notre Dame Prep (MA), a 6'9 power forward who is headed to Pitt, reclassifying back to 2011, Jerrett is the second highest ranked commit in the class of 2012. The highest ranked player off the board is #5 Isaiah Austin of Grace Prep (TX), a 7'0 center who has pledged to Baylor.

In addition to Jerrett, Arizona also landed another player from La Verne Lutheran, per reports. Eric Cooper, Jr., a 6'2 combo guard in the class of 2013, joined his high school teammate in committing to the Pac-10's Wildcats.

Another player to commit recently was class of 2011 shooting guard John Golden of Northfield Mt. Hermon (MA). The 6'5 New Jersey native made his pledge to Dartmouth, according to his high school head coach John Carroll. He is the eleventh player from NMH to head to an Ivy League school in the past four years.
