Chol, Luckett Weighing Options

by Alex Schwartz

As of this moment, there are just 16 uncommitted players in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150. One of those players has since reclassified to 2012, meaning that just 15 ranked players in this class are available. When the signing period ends on Wednesday night, that number is expected to be even smallers.

On Tuesday, I caught up with a pair of 2011 ranked prospects that are still on the board in 6'9 power forward Angelo Chol of Hoover (CA) and 6'4 shooting guard LeAntwan Luckett of Ridgeland (MS).

Angelo Chol is the #68 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150, thirteenth amongst power forwards. Chol is the second highest ranked available four-man in the class and is the best available player at a West Coast high school. He has narrowed his list down to a quartet of schools.

"The 5 schools are Alabama, Washington, Arizona, Kansas, and North Carolina," Chol said by text message.

Unfortunately for other schools looking for a big man, there will be no other schools who enter the mix. "I'm set with the 5," Chol said.

"My last official visit is on the 11 of February so hopefully on the 17th of that month," Chol said of when he plans to make his commitment.

The big man took his first official visit to Alabama and has also visited Kansas officially. His February 11th visit is to Washington, and he is unsure of the exact dates of his trips to Arizona and North Carolina.

At this point, Chol has no leaders in his recruitment. "No I'm still trying to figure it out," he said.

LeAntwan Luckett checks in as the #137 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011. Although he is the number 36 shooting guard in the country, he is second highest ranked available two-guard in the class, as one of the others above him has reclassified to 2012.

Luckett has a list of seven schools that are recruiting him. In addition to offers from Jacksonville State, Arkansas State, and Missouri State, Luckett said he is hearing from Colorado, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Baylor.

The Magnolia State prospect lists three favorites at this point: Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Missouri State. He noted that none of them stand out the most, though.

Is there any chance that Luckett decides to sign today, the final day of the early signing period? "Me and my mom talk about it," he said by text. "It might be a chance."

On when he will decide, Luckett remarked, "Whenever me and my people get done talking."

"School [that is] goin to push me on and off the court and work with me to get to that next level," Luckett said of what he is looking for in a college. "[One with] a good school program."
