Shaq Boga May Not Sign Early
by Alex Schwartz
Shaq Boga, a 6'0 point guard from McCluer (MO), committed to Wisconsin-Milwaukee about three weeks ago, but it
remains to be seen if he will sign with the Panthers in the early signing period. Boga is the #149 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150 and is the only ranked player committed to a Horzon League School.
When the early signing period began last Wednesday, Boga told me via text that "its a slight possibility" he would wait to sign, adding, "I kind of wanna see the college season first."
Boga said that he was going to decide over the weekend whether or not he would ink with the Panthers, so I reached out to the Show Me State star to see if he had signed.
"Still in debate over signing," Boga said via text Sunday night.
On when he will decide whether or not he will sign early, Boga commented, "Most likely on Wednesday."
"Its just the fact that [I wonder] will I get exposed [to people] on the mid major level," Boga said. "I feel I can dominate the mid major level. I wanna play against the toughest competition."
So would Boga's reasoning for waiting be to see if he would get any higher level offers? "I mean I had higher level offers," he said. "I just wanna make sure this is the right decision."
Boga said that his other finalists were Western Kentucky, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wichita State. He noted that all of them had offered a scholarship.
Asked if he has spoken with the UW-Milwaukee coaching staff about the situattion, Boga responded, "That's where my brother [Lonnie Boga, a sophomore] goes so they knew it was going to be a tough decision but I will know by Wednesday what I will do."
On whether he would decommit if he does not sign, Boga remarked, "Its a tough decision. It just depends on how things work out. I dont even know what I wanna do yet."
