Harris, Rivers, Parker Commit; DePaul Adds Two

by Alex Schwartz

Friday was a busy day in the basketball recruiting world. In addition to the two ranked players who had scheduled announcements on Friday, another ranked prospect's decision came out, and two more players popped to the same Big East school.

The first commitment of the day came from 6'8 Tyler Harris of St. Benedict's (NJ), the #130 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150. Harris verbally committed to the North Carolina State Wolfpack, selecting the ACC program over Iowa and Providence.

Harris is the younger brother of 2010 McDonald's All-American and Tennessee freshman Tobias Harris. A Long Island native, Harris is at St. Benedict's for his senior season.

NC State now has two commitments in the class of 2011 and both of them are from ranked players. Harris joins #61 ranked Joseph Uchebo of Word of God Academy (NC).

In news that I first saw from Eric Bossi of Rivals, David Rivers, a 6'6 small forward from Little Rock Hall (AR) committed to Nebraska. According to Huskers Illustrated, the Nebraska affiliate of Rivals, Rivers actually pledged to Doc Sadler and Co. on Thursday night.

Rivers is the #134 ranked player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150. He is the first ranked player to commit to the Cornhuskers in this class.

Nebraska now has a three-man 2011 recruiting class. Rivers joins Corey Hilliard of Corey Hilliard of Raytown South (MO) and Josiah Moore of Norcross (GA) in the soon-to-be Big Ten program's class.

Dai-Jon Parker of Milton (GA) was the best of players who committed on Friday. Parker, who entered the day as the best uncommitted shooting guard in the class, announced for Vanderbilt. The news was first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.

Parker checks in as the #50 overall player in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150, number 14 among shooting guards. He chose Vanderbilt over Georgia, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, and Rhode Island.

Vanderbilt now has a strong three-man recruiting class that includes a pair of players ranked in the top 100 in the country. Parker, #100 ranked Kedren Johnson of Marshall County (TN), and Shelby Moats of Waconia (MN) make up the Commodores' class.

While DePaul did not add any ranked prospects, head coach Oliver Purnell still had big reason to rejoice on Friday. Well, Purnell actually had had two big—literally—reasons to celebrate.

According to Brian Snow of Scout, the Blue Demons picked up commitments from a pair of talented post players. Both Braeden Anderson of Wilbraham & Monson (MA) and Derrell Robertson of Mendenhall (MS) reportedly selected the Big East program.

Anderson is a native of Canada who did receive some consideration for the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150, but missed the cut. Robertson is an intriguing long-term prospect with great height and length in the low post.

DePaul now has a five-man recruiting class in 2011 that is headlined by #91 ranked Shane Larkin of Dr. Phillips (FL). The other commits are Anderson, Robertson, Macari Brooks of Rich South (IL), and Jaime Crockett of Crete-Monee (IL).
