Checking In With Kennedy
After spending the majority of his summer with the New England Playaz, 6'9 power forward Markus Kennedy was with the Huntington Park Warriors on the final day of the July Live Period. He helped lead his team to the finals of the U17 Gold Bracket of the NYC Summer Classic and Fordham University.
Kennedy committed to Villanova back in April of 2009 as a member of the class of 2010, but will take a post-graduate year and be in the class of 2011. The big man spoke with VUSports.com about what high school he will be attending next year, the status of his commitment, his conditioning, and more.
The talented post player said that he will be going to Brewster Academy (NH) next year, one of the top prep school programs in the country.
This will be Kennedy's fifth high school in five years, and the changes have been difficult for him at times.
"It's hard for me personally because I gotta adjust to new a coaching staff, new curriculum, make new friends, but basketball-wise I only went to one school that wasn't a basketball powerhouse," Kennedy explained.
Kennedy was not including Monsignor Bonner (PA) as a non-basketball powerhouse, as he did not play hoops there as a freshman.
"I didn't play until tenth grade," he said. Kennedy added that he played football at Bonner and did not play organized basketball since earlier on in middle school.
"I know we got the kid DeAndre [Daniels] or something, going to Texas . . . supposedly [he is coming]. Naadir [Tharpe] is there, Max Hooper, and we got some other guys," Kennedy said of what the Brewster roster will look like next year.
