Johnson Chats About His Verbal to Villanova

by Alex Schwartz

Tyrone Johnson is off the board. The 2011 point guard from Plainfield (NJ) committed to Villanova today. The number 50 ranked player in the Rivals 150, Johnson becomes the third member of the Wildcats' recruiting class.

"I felt as though it's just a great school, a great environment," said Johnson on how he decided on VU. "Villanova has one of the best, if not the best, coaches in America in Jay Wright. I feel as though it fits me. It's the best situation for me, so that's why I chose Villanova."

Johnson, who said he committed at noon today, listed Georgetown and Rutgers as his other finalists. Had it been his dream to play in the Big East or was it a coincidence that his final three were in the same conference?

"I always thought the Big East fit me [as a] tough guard, hardnosed guard. Growing up watching the Big East, I always thought it was the best conference in college basketball and I always wanted to go there and be one of their top players as well," Johnson said.
