NBPA Top 100 Camp- Hawks & Pistons Scouting Reports

by Alex Schwartz

The 2010 NBPA Top 100 Camp featured some of the most highly-touted and highly-recruited players in the country, with prospects coming from coast to coast. Even some of Canada's finest made the trip to the University of Virginia's John Paul Jones Arena for the prestigious event.

The players were broken down into 10 teams for the camp, each squad being named for an NBA franchise. In addition to my articles with school lists (Day One, Day Two, Day Three, and Day Four) and Top Scorers/Award Winners post, I will also have five separate pieces with scouting reports and evaluations from the NBPA Top 100 Camp. Each article will be for two of the 10 teams, going in alphabetical order (the two finalists will be together regardless) for the posts.

This fifth post is on the two teams that made the camp championship, the Hawks and Pistons, and will include players' heights, weights, wingspans, reaches, scoring output, and an evaluation. Here is the final installment of Northstar Basketball's NBPA Top 100 Camp scouting reports. To view my scouting report post on the Cavs and Celtics, click Here. Note: Height is without shoes on and all players played in seven games unless otherwise noted.

HAWKS (Second Place)

Josiah Turner ’11, PG, Sacramento (CA)
Height & Weight: 6’3, 174lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’4, 8’0.5
PPG & High: 11.8, 15
Turner, who was at one point committed to Arizona State, finished camp ninth place in scoring, going for 11+ in six of his seven games, including 15 three times. A do-it-all point guard, Turner is effective when it comes to distributing the basketball as well as scoring it. Also, he possesses a good handle.

Dezmine Wells ’11, SF, Hargrave Military Academy (VA), Xavier
Height & Weight: 6’4, 218lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’10, 8’4
PPG & High: 6.8, 25
Wells is an undersized small forward, but he makes up for that in a number of ways. The future Xavier Musketeer is an outstanding athlete, has great length, and plays all out at all times. He needs to improve upon his long range jumper, but his midrange game has come along nicely. Wells hit double-digits in four of his seven games, but went scoreless in another. The sturdy wing turned it on when it counted most though, going off for 25 points as he did he best to will his team to a comeback victory in the championship. Although the Hawks came up short, Wells' game was one of the top three or four single-game individual performances all week. He absolutely took the game over on the offensive end and was also effective on the glass and showed a nice handle. Wells garnered Tournament MVP honors and showed that he will be an absolute stud in the Atlantic-10.

Rashad “Ky” Madden ’11, PG, East Poinsett County (AR)
Height & Weight: 6’4.5, 171lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’11, 8’2
PPG & High: 9.7, 16
Madden just missed the top 25 in scoring, but had a superb week nonetheless. The Natural State star has a smooth game and can play both the one and the two. Madden has a great wingspan for a guard at nearly 7'0, and he is also a stellar athlete. His scoring output was all over the place, so consistency would be something to work on, as would adding bulk. All said, it was a nice showing in Virginia for Madden.

Shannon Scott ’11, PG, Milton (GA), Ohio State
Height & Weight: 6’1, 179lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’5, 7’11.5
PPG & High: 5.7, 11
It was a quiet camp week for the son of former North Carolina star and NBA player Charlie Scott. The Ohio State-bound Scott is a true floor general who leads a team well, but scoring is not his forte at this point. Scott will definitely be a nice player at the collegiate level.

Achraf Yacoubou ’11, SG, Long Island Lutheran (NY), Villanova
Height & Weight: 6’4, 202lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’8, 8’4
PPG & High: 4.7, 13
The only player at a New York high school in attendance, Yacoubou was hot and cold at NBPA Camp. He went for 13 in one game, but only dropped more than five in one of his other six outings. A strong guard who can get to the cup and put it on the deck a bit, Yacoubou needs to improve his long range jumper. If he plays like he did in the contest he score double figures, Yacoubou will have a nice career in the Big East.

Desmond Hubert ’11, PF, New Egypt (NJ)
Height & Weight: 6’9, 195lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 7’2, 8’11.5
PPG & High: 1.8, 4
Camps like this are not cut out for slim, defensive-minded post players like Hubert. He barely scored, but that was more due to the style of play in this setting. Hubert is long and active, blocks shots, and rebounds the ball well. He offensive skill set is a work in progress, but he has come a long way over the course of his high school career. When he adds bulk, he will only get better.

Nick Stauskas ’12, SF, St. Mark’s (MA)
Height & Weight: 6’5, 200lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’7, 8’3.5
PPG & High: 7.7, 17
Despite being one of the lesser-known players at NBPA Camp, the native Canadian had a sound showing. The 17 points Stauskas had in his first game tied the single game high for non-2011 players. While he did not reach 10+ again, he held his own and hit some shots.

Chane Behanan ’11, PF, Bowling Green (KY)
Height & Weight: 6’6, 253lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’8, 8’6.5
PPG & High: 14.7, 19
Behanan went for double figures in all seven of his games and tied for second in scoring average en route to garnering Most Valuable Player honors. Behanan is definitely undersized for a power forward, but he has an extremely big, strong frame, which allows him to body defenders down low. Behanan, who is from Ohio and was committed for Cincinnati for some time, put on an absolute show at the event in almost all aspects of the game. The big man demonstrated that he can shoot it a bit, take the ball strong to the cup, rebound around taller players, block shots, and get to the stripe. There is no doubt that he was the best performer at NBPA Top 100 Camp and was certainly deserving of MVP honors.

Anthony Davis ’11, PF, Perspectives Charter (IL)
Height & Weight: 6’8, 190lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 7’2, 9’0
PPG & High: 11.7, 20

Behanan's biggest competition for MVP may well have been his teammate Anthony Davis, and while David did not win that award, he did receive Most Outstanding Prospect honors. An extremely long face-up four, Davis burst onto the scene with a fantastic spring and showed that it was no fluke while at NBPA Camp. The Chicago star is active on the defensive end, going after after passes with his long arms, and even catching poor passes to go the other way for a bucket. Davis is a superb rebounder at both ends of the floor, but is also an effective scorer and was one of three Hawks to finish top ten in points per game. Davis had double-digit point totals in four of his games, including 20 in an upset win in the semifinals over a previously 5-0 team. Davis does his scoring in many ways, as he can finish down low, grab an offensive rebound and put it in, hit the midrange J, and also put it on the deck in a pinch. Overall, Davis was one of the best performers and players in camp and was indeed deserving of the MOP trophy.

PISTONS (Champion)

Chris Jones ’11, PG, Melrose (TN), Tennessee
Height & Weight: 5’8, 162lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’0, 7’4
PPG & High: 11.0, 13
Jones finished top 15 in scoring and was quite consistent, scoring between eight and 13 points in all seven of his games, including 13 three times and nine twice. Even though he is extremely undersized, Jones is a lethal scorer from anywhere on the court. His range extends well beyond the arc and he is not afraid to shoot the ball. Jones can also take it to the cup, utilizing his impressive quickness. In the past he has been trigger happy, but at NBPA Camp, the future Tennessee Volunteer did a better job of finding the open man.

Nick Faust ’11, SG, Baltimore City College HS (MD)
Height & Weight: 6’4, 174lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’10, 8’4
PPG & High: 12.8, 17
Faust finished seventh in scoring and was the top scorer for the team that won the championship. He also picked up Surprise Player honors at the end up camp. Faust is quite long, but needs to bulk up a bit. He can really score the basketball and has a nice jumper from beyond the arc. He backed up his big-time spring with a really good showing at NBPA Camp.

Ryan Arcidiacono ’12, PG, Neshaminy (PA)
Height & Weight: 6’2.5, 191lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’4, 7’11
PPG & High: 6.3, 11
After his stock went through the roof around mid-May, Arcidiacono came to NBPA Camp and performed quite well. He did not dominate, but the well-rounded point guard was not overmatched either. The Keystone State standout can shoot the rock, get to the cup, handle the ball well, and also looks for the open man.

Chase Fischer ’11, SG, Ripley (WV), Wake Forest
Height & Weight: n/a (was not measured)
Wingspan & Reach: n/a
PPG & High: 9.2, 22
A late addition to NBPA Camp, the one-time Marshall commit who is now headed to Wake Forest had a solid showing. Listed at 6'2, Fischer is undersized for a two-guard, but he can score the ball nonetheless. Fischer finished top 35 in points per game, but besides his 22-point outing he did not go over eight points in any game. Fischer did show some ability to run the point, which is a good sign considering his height.

Jabari Parker ’13, SF, Simeon (IL)
Height & Weight: 6’6, 235lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’10, 8’6
PPG & High: 4.5, 10
The son of former NBA player Sonny Parker, Jabari is much more than just his father's child. One of the best players in the class of 2013, Parker got better as camp went on, scoring 8+ in final three games after not reaching even five in his first four. His best outing was in the championship when he went for 10, scoring both off the bounce and by way of his jumper. Parker needs to shed a few pounds, but with his skill set and length as a combo forward, considering his youth, he has a chance to be a special player down the road without question.

Sam Thompson ’11, SF, Whitney Young (IL)
Height & Weight: 6’6, 180lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’8, 8’5
PPG & High: 6.7, 12
A big-time athlete with great hops, Thompson had his moments at NBPA Camp. The Windy City star was solid in the scoring column, but not great. He has a strong frame and looks to be a player who could develop into a superb collegiate player at the high-major DI level.

Trevor Lacey ’11, PG, Butler (AL)
Height & Weight: 6’1.5, 203lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 6’6, 8’1
PPG & High: 8.0, 12
For a point guard, Lacey has both quality length and a big overall frame. He would likely do well to shed a few pounds, but Lacey is a power guard who can get to the cup off the bounce. His scoring was up and down during camp, but Lacey is certainly a talented player.

DeAndre Daniels ’11, SF, Taft (CA), Texas
Height & Weight: 6’7, 193lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 7’1, n/a
PPG & High: 10.0, 16
Daniels just missed the top 20 in scoring after going for at least nine points in six of his seven games, including double-digits in four of them. An ultra-long wing, Daniels is an extremely effective offensive player and also a big-time rebounder. Potential-wise, he is near the top of the class of 2011. Daniels can shoot the ball a bit, but is adept at scoring around the bucket by utilizing his length and athletic ability. The future Texas Longhorn is great on the offensive glass and his overall game, at both ends of the floor, is quite impressive.

Joseph Uchebo ’11, C, Word of God Academy (NC), North Carolina State
Height & Weight: 6’9, 238lbs
Wingspan & Reach: 7’0.5, 8’11
PPG & High: 9.2, 16
Formerly in the class of 2012, Uchebo was definitely one of the best big men at NBPA Top 100 Camp. Uchebo came over from Nigeria only about a year and half ago and has only been playing hoops for about three and half years, but his skill set is rapidly improving. A strong post presence, Uchebo is not only adept at blocking shots on the defensive end, but is also a top-notch rebounder. Also, he has a bit of a face-up game, but most of his points do come around the cup. Still relatively raw, NC State is getting an interior player with a lot of potential in Uchebo.

Kaleb Tarczewski ’12, C, St. Mark’s (MA)
Height & Weight: n/a (was not measured)
Wingspan & Reach: n/a
PPG & High: 6.7, 10

Despite being a late addition tor NBPA Camp, Tarczewski had a solid showing. Listed at 7'0, he was one of the two or three tallest players in attendance. Tarczewski plays tough, quality defense and is also a good rebounder. His offensive game is still developing.
