NBPA Top 100 Camp- Day One School Lists

by Alex Schwartz

The NBPA Top 100 Camp is in the books. Arguably the best camp of the spring and summer, the elite event was held at the University of Virginia's John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville yet again this year, and as always there was a great deal of talent in the building.

The majority of the players there were rising seniors, top players in the class of 2011. In addition, there were a number of big-time 2012 prospects along with a handful of players in the class of 2013.

There was not much action on the first day of camp besides a one hour practice for the players. There was, though, time for the media to speak with some of the talented guys in attendance.

Below are the school lists and recruiting updates that I collected on the first evening at NBPA Top 100 Camp. In the coming days I will post many more school lists and recruiting updates, as well as evaluations of the players at the camp.

School Lists/Recruiting Updates

Julian Royal ’11, Milton (GA): Georgia Tech, Georgia, Wake Forest, Alabama, Ohio State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Texas, and Miami are the main ones recruiting him
                          Offers: All
Favorites: “I guess some I’m liking a lot are Georgia Tech, Georgia, Wake Forest, and Alabama.”
Notes- “He lets us do our thing,” said Royal of whether or not high school/AAU teammate Shannon Scott, an Ohio State, is recruiting he and fellow teammate Dai-Jon Parker to OSU. Asked when he will commit, Royal remarked, “Probably during the fall or winter.”

Nick Faust ’11, Baltimore City (MD): UNLV, Marquette, Maryland, Oregon State, UMass, Drexel, Delaware, Kentucky, Duke, Clemson, George Mason, and others
Offers: UNLV, Marquette, Maryland, Oregon State, UMass, Drexel, and Delaware

Wayne Blackshear ’11, Morgan Park (IL), Louisville
“As I was narrowing it down, it was between Lousiville and Marquette. I talked with my family and we thought it was the best fit, so we decided to go there. I like Coach P [Rick Pitino], the style of play, and I was comfortable,” said Blackshear of how he picked the Big East school.
Asked if he tries to get AAU teammate Mike Shaw ’11, who is also at NBAPA Camp, to join him at Louisville, Blackshear replied, “Sometimes.I don’t really put no pressure on him because I don’t wanna push him away. I let him make his decision, but I ask him.”
Blackshear has been committed to Louisville for quite some time. He is one of three Cardinal commits in the class of 2011, along with fellow Top 100campers Ryan Taylor and Zach Price. “It’s real cool. Me and Zach are real good friends off the court. Ryan Taylor [and I are] getting a real good relationship. [We are developing] as a family,” Blackshear said of his relationship with his fellow commits.
“I’m not really paying attention to that kind of stuff,” said Blackshear of some of the recent turmoil at Louisville. “It doesn’t change my decision.”
As for what he wants to accomplish in college, Blackshear remarked, “Probably my freshman year, just getting adjusted to college ball. [I want to] get Louisville as far as I can take them. That’s all I can think of and as far as it takes me, it takes me.”
