NY Standouts at Bob Gibbons TOC Day 2
by Alex Schwartz
The 2010 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions continued on yesterday with 10 sets of games. Each team from New York played at least twice and some played even more.
NYChoops.net was able to watch the New York Panthers, Long Island Lightning, and Rich Soil at the U17 level as well as LIL at the U16 level.
The New York Panthers had a loaded roster for the tournament, but it was not enough to get by Belmont Shore in the afternoon. The big-time program from California utilized its size to its advantage and knocked off the Panthers by 14. Nonetheless, a handful of players from Gary Charles' squad played well. The team advanced to the Select (second place pool finishers) playoffs.
David Burgos '11 of Wadleigh (NY), Maryland-commit Sterling Gibbs '11 of Seton Hall Prep (NJ), Fordham-pledge Jeff Short '11 of John F. Kennedy (NY), and Ryan Rhoomes '11 of Cardozo (NY) all had solid showings.
