Lewis Holds UM Offer, Has Connection to Coach Haith

by Alex Schwartz

Standing a slight 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds Tyler Lewis of Forsyth Country Day School (NC) might not look the part of a high-major prospect, but that is exactly what the sophomore point guard has developed into.

Lewis currently lists offers from North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Miami, Baylor, Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth. In addition, Lewis said Wake Forest, Virginia, and Stanford are involved in his recruitment.

Asked if he has any favorites, Lewis replied, “No, not really. I mean, it’s still too early.”

The 2012 prospect has taken unofficial visits to Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Charlotte. Though he does not have any programs leading the way, he does know what he is looking for in a college.

“Basically just a team who pushes the ball, gets up and down the floor, up tempo, lets me play my game," Lewis said.

In addition, Lewis also has an idea of when he will be taking his name off the board. “I’m gonna make my commitment probably around this time next year, like probably after the high school season," Lewis said.

Lewis possesses a distinct connection to the University of Miami, as his high school head coach, Craig Dawson, played for UM head coach Frank Haith when Haith was an assistant at Wake Forest.
