Terrence Jones to Kentucky

by Alex Schwartz

Terrence Jones '10, a 6'8 power forward from Jefferson (OR), committed to Washington at a press conference just a few weeks ago. Yesterday, on the last day of the late signing period, Jones inked financial aid papers with Kentucky. Jones is the second player to commit to Washington, change his mind, and sign with Kentucky, joining 6'9 center Enes Kanter of Stone Ridge Prep (CA).

When Jones announced for Washington at his presser in late April, he said that he was making his choice right then and there. After making his choice, he supposedly spoke to UK Head Coach John Calipari on the phone and had second thoughts about his choice. Jones then took even more time to think about his college choice, before signing with the Wildcats yesterday night.

Jones had arguably the most drawn out and high-profile recruitment of any member of the class of 2010 due to the announcement, wavering, and now flip to UK. In addition, he took four of his official visits before the early signing period and many thought he would sign in November. Jones wound up tripping to Kansas in April as well, but it ultimately came down to the Huskies and Wildcats. He is the last player in the current Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125 to make his official college choice.

Jones' high school classmate and close friend Terrence Ross '10 officially announced for Washington on the same day that Jones originally did. Ross has signed with UW, though there is some concern that he may not qualify academically due to his midyear transfer from Montrose Christian (MD) back to Jefferson.

With the addition to Ross, Kentucky has the clear cut number one recruiting class of 2010 recruiting haul in the country. He joins Brandon Knight of Pince Crest (FL), Enes Kanter of Stone Ridge Prep (CA), Doron Lamb of Oak Hill Academy (VA), Stacey Poole of Providence School (FL), and Eloy Vargas of Miami-Dade CC (FL). All of them were late signees except for Poole.
