Denzel Brito to Loyola-Chicago; Gerry Wixted to PG

by Alex Schwartz

One of the top remaining class of 2010 guards in the Northeast took his name off the board yesterday. According to a source close to the situation, 6'2 combo guard Denzel Brito of Lawrence Academy (MA) committed to Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday. The news was broken by Northstar Basketball via our Twitter page.

Despite being undersized, Brito is a talented scorer with a sturdy frame. He was solid on the summer circuit with the high-powered New England Playaz last summer. Brito teamed with fellow backcourt star and UConn-signee Shabazz Napier '10 to lead Lawrence Academy to an undefeated NEPSAC Class C championship in 09-10. Brito becomes the third member of Loyola-Chicago's class of 2010, joining Flavien Davis and John Gac.

In other news, another one of New Jersey's top seniors has made his decision for next year. Gerry Wixted, a 6'7 power forward from Camden Catholic, will be going the prep school route. The #39 ranked player in Northstar Basketball's New Jersey Class of 2010 Fab 50, Wixted will be spending a PG year at Lawrenceville School (NJ).

A key member of Camden Catholic run to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title game, Wixted is the seventh player ranked in the Fab 50 to have already decided to head to prep school next school year. The big man will likely see his recruiting increase while doing a post-grad year.
