Myck Kabongo Player Diary Entry #6
Class of 2011 star point guard Myck Kabongo sent out an official statement today via email on his decision to transfer high schools for next year. Kabongo, a native of Canada who has been at St. Benedict's (NJ), will be attending Findlay Prep (NV) next year. He explained his decision in the email, which he is using as his sixth player diary entry for the site. Check it out:
What's up everyone? A lot has gone on in the past month with me so I'll try to fill you guys in with as much as I can. Some of you know my school didn't compete in this years NHSI Tournament which left me & my teammates very devastated, but the news that hit us the hardest was when we heard our coach had taken a college job at Wagner University (which I'm very happy for him that he got it ). After that took place a lot of people have asked and wondered what will I be doing after this summer concerning my school situation, & I've sat down with my family & coaches & I will be doing what's best for me school wise & basketball wise. I can say I've been blessed at the great opportunities I've been given & have thought for a while about my next move.
With that being said, I will be attending Findlay Prep next year for my senior year in Henderson, Nevada & playing for Coach Peck. Me & my family think its best for me to go somewhere, where I will be happy & a place that will get me the most prepared before I head to Austin, Texas next year for college.
The decision for me leaving was not a difficult one to make after my coach Dan Hurley left it was hard to be at St. Benedict's Prep. Coach Hurley was the main reason for me going to the school. His departure, and the fact I was never happy at the school made me transfer. It was a continuous thing that everyday I was never happy at school, & talking to everyone with an important role in my life told me that your suppose to enjoy your high school years. At St Benedict's the only thing I looked forward to was graduating & heading to college asap with forgetting completely about my High School days. With an attitude like that I knew I wasn't going to get very far, so I changed my approach about it & made sure I left on a good note at the school, & handled the situation in a orderly manner.
I will surely miss all my friends & family that I made away from home in New Jersey. It was a good second home for the time being.
Now at Findlay Prep I look forward to enjoying my senior season, I'm overwrought about it ! I've gotten good feed back from my peers who have gone through the program such as Avery, Cory, Trey & they've told me the place is domicile. I know going there I'm getting good coaching to polish my basketball skills from Coach Peck, & also help maturing as a person. Most importantly attending Findlay I know that I will be surrounded by good people. People that want me to succeed on & off the court & help stir me towards the right path to reach my goals and dreams.
Now its time for the summer! Time to go out and prove myself, have fun on the AAU circuit a bit, also help out my Canadian national team & workout everyday striding to get even better for next year as an individual & a teammate.
Until Then H&H (Humble & Hungry)
