S. Gjuorski Talks Louisiana Tech; M. Poole Considering Six
by Alex Schwartz
A few days ago, 6'7 small forward Stojan Gjuroski '10 of Life Center Academy (NJ) committed to Louisiana Tech, according to reports. Originally from Macedonia, Gjuroski is ranked number 36 in Northstar Basketball's New Jersey Class of 2010 Fab 50. Gjuroski was one of the key members of an LCA team that finished ranked eighth in the New Jersey Postseason High School Fantastic 65.
"They knew about me before I came [over to the US] and they recruited me the hardest," said Gjuroski of how he picked the Bulldogs. He added, "One of their scouts heard about me and my games in Europe."
Quinnipiac, Iona, Rider, Northwestern, and Eastern Kentucky were the other schools that the long shooter considered before picked Louisiana Tech.
Gjuroski has yet to sign his National Letter of Intent, but will likely do so in the near future. "Not yet, I don't know when, probably in the next 2-3 weeks," Gjuroski said.
How does Gjuroski
feel to have the decision behind him? "I feel safer now, and from the other side, I'm happy because I will be in a surrounding with good people who will make me a better person and player."
Asked if he has any goals for his college career, Gjuroski replied, "To make my team better and become a better player."
While Gjuroski has taken his name off the board, the number 14 ranked player in the New Jersey Class of 2010 Fab 50, Mike Poole of St. Benedict's (NJ) is still uncommitted. A 6'6 wing, Poole is the second highest ranked available player from the Garden State, behind Ron Roberts of St. Peter's Prep, who was recently released from his Letter of Intent to St. John's.
Poole is currently considering six schools, five of which he claims offers from. Rhode Island, Baylor, Rice, UConn, Providence, and Marshall are the half dozen programs on Poole's list. The long, athletic wing said that all but Baylor have extended offers.
"None right now. Rhode Island is the leader, but I'm still 100% open," said Poole of who his is in the lead to land his services. Which of the schools has he visited? "UConn is it, but I'm planning [on visiting] Rhode Island and Rice and Providence."
Poole said that he will "probably [commit] within a 2 to 3 week span" and would thus make his choice in mid-May. As of now, Poole is not qualified to play Division I basketball, though he is not far away. "I need one more class and I'll be fully qualified," he said, adding that "yes" he does expect to be eligible and play next year.
