Carson Desrosiers Waiting it Out
by Alex Schwartz
In November, Wake Forest Head Coach Dino Gaudio signed a fantastic five-man recruiting class that was ranked #7 in my Class of 2010 Team Rankings- January Edition. The last
player to join that group was 6'10 power forward Carson Desrosiers '10 of Central Catholic (MA). The versatile big man, ranked #76 in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125, selected the Demon Deacons in late September, putting the final touches on Wake Forest's class.
With the news that came earlier this week that Dino Gaudio had been surprisingly fired from Wake Forest after three seasons, it threw the future of Desrosiers, and the other four Wake Forest signees, into question. As of now, Desrosiers is still set to attend Wake Forest, as he has not asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent just yet.
"I haven't asked and just [I am] just waiting to see who they hire and after that see what happens," said Desrosiers, who was as shocked by Gaudio's dismissal as everyone else was. "[It was] just completely unexpected, especially after [an NCAA] Tournament win," said the big man on his reaction to the news.
Desrosiers has not spoken with Gaudio, though he has talked with two Wake Forest assistant coaches. "I've spoken with Coach [Jeff] Battle and [Coach Rusty] LaRue about what's going to happen." What did they tell him? "Just sit tight."
While Desrosiers has seen all the names being mentioned for the head job at the ACC program, he does not know who he wants the school to hire, knowing that much of what is out there is mere rumors. "I'm not sure. I've seen some names, but I'm sure a lot are rumors floating around."
Should the Bay State star opt to go somewhere besides Wake forest, he would be open to all comers. "At this time I'd be open, but I am still, at this time, attending Wake," said Desrosiers, who selected the Demon Deacons over Arizona State and Marquette.
"None to me, but my coaches have told me schools have to them," replied Desrosiers when asked if other schools have been in contact.
