Prime Time Shootout Saturday Afternoon Interviews & School Lists

Saturday was the best day of the Prime Time Shootout this past weekend and although the first four games were not all that close, there was still a lot of talent on display. LaQuinton Ross ’11, Life Center Academy (NJ): Texas, Florida, Villanova, Georgetown, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Baylor, “and a few more”
                                  Offers: All
                                  Favorites: “Not really, I’m wide open right now.”
                                  Notes- Ross transferred to LCA from Murrah (MS) about a month ago and he discussed the move. “All my people in my family thought it was time to get out and play a national schedule.” He said the transition is “going good” and that since the move he has “added Villanova and Georgetown” to his list. Ross commented that he will “probably have a top five by the end of the summer”.

Stojan Gjuroski ’10, Life Center Academy (NJ): Louisiana Tech and Northwestern
                                Offers: None
                                Favorites: None
                                Notes- Gjuroski is in his first year in the US after moving from Macedonia and said that “no one knows me yet” as to why he does not have more interest. He has been playing basketball for 11 years and added, “My father played basketball, and my brother [did too]. It’s like a tradition in my family.”

Wil Martinez ’11, Our Savior New American (NY): Kentucky, Rutgers, and Virginia
                           Offers: None
                           Favorite: Kentucky
                           Notes- Martinez is originally from Puerto Rico, and spent his sophomore year at Lausanne (TN) and then was at St. Benedict’s (NJ) for his first semester this year. He said he has spoken with an assistant coach at each of the three schools on his list.

Kamari Murphy ’11, Lincoln (NY): Virginia, Virginia Tech, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Auburn, Wake Forest, and Pitt
                                Offers: Murphy was unsure of all his offers, but knew that Virginia and Providence had offered
                                Favorites: “Right now it’s Virginia, and Pitt too.”
                                Note- Murphy, who has visited Providence and would prefer to play in the Big East or ACC, said he transferred from Bishop Ford (NY) to Lincoln for “better competition, and a better league,” adding, “playing at a public school would raise my game.”

Shaq Stokes ’11, Lincoln (NY): Florida, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Virginia, and Providence
                            Offers: Stokes has no offers now, but said “Florida is about to offer”
                            Favorites: “Florida is my favorite, but not really, I’m just waiting.”

Khalid Lewis El ’11, Trenton Catholic (NJ): Drexel, St. Joseph’s, Rider, Fairfield, Siena, Providence, Richmond, and Robert Morris
                                Offers: Rider and Robert Morris
                                Favorites: None

Shamel Williams ’11, Thomas Jefferson (NY): unsure of list
                                 Offers: n/a
                                 Favorites: n/a
                                 Note- On why he transferred from Rice (NY) to Thomas Jefferson, Williams said, “I had went to Rice and I can’t play next year at Rice because I turn 19, so I wanted to go someplace where I could get used to my team.”


Cory Joseph ’10, Findlay Prep (NV)
Joseph said that he is still considering five schools (Minnesota, Texas, UConn, UNLV, Villanova) and said he will commit "whenever I feel 100%". The point guard had not spoken with UConn Jim Calhoun regarding his medical leave of absence of of the time of our interview. Nick Johnson ’11, Findlay Prep (NV): Arizona State, Arizona, Ohio State, UNLV, UCLA, USC, Kentucky, Louisville, Wake Forest, Oregon State, and Gonzaga
                             Offers: Arizona State, Arizona, Ohio State, UNLV, Wake Forest, Oregon State, and Gonzaga
                             Favorites: None
                             Notes- Johnson, who is from Arizona, plans to “narrow things down after the season” and commit “early senior year”. On what his first year at Findlay Prep has been like, Johnson said, “It’s been great. I get to play against top talent and we travel like a college program. It gets me ready for college.”

Winston Shepard ’12, Findlay Prep (NV): Texas, Kentucky, Villanova, Memphis, Syracuse, UNLV, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona State, and Arizona
                                   Offers: Texas, Kentucky, Memphis, UNLV, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona State, and Arizona
                                   Favorite: “My tops right now are Texas, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Oklahoma” in no order
                                   Note- Shepard is originally from Texas and said that location “might play a factor because I don’t like the cold, but if I got to [deal with it] to get to the next level, I’ll do it.”

Nigel Williams-Goss ’13, Findlay Prep (NV): UConn, Mississippi State, Washington, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii, UNLV, UCLA, and Oregon

Godwin Okonji ’10, Findlay Prep (NV): Hawaii, New Mexico, Missouri, UCLA, and Marquette

                               Favorites: None
                               Notes- Okonji is originally from Nigeria and has been in America for three years, all of which have been at Findlay Prep. He is in his fourth year playing basketball and is looking for a “good basketball program, and good academics program as well” in his college.
