Reggie Cameron Player Diary Entry #4
Paterson Catholic (NJ) has been one of the most surprising and impressive players in the nation this year, knocking off numerous top-notch teams en route to a top 10 ranking. Although Reggie Cameron '13 is new to the high school scene, the freshman is still playing a role for the
Cougars. Cameron sent in his fourth player diary entry last night, and in it his discussed PC's success, some personal achievements, and more.
What's up, It's Reggie Cameron coming at you with another update on my first high school basketball season. I think my team has a chance to be on of the best Paterson Catholic teams ever. Our team is now 8-0 and we still know we can get better. During the Christmas holidays, we went to play in the prestigious City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. It's one of the best tournaments in the country and we surprised everyone by winning the "Chip"! We played three top teams in the country (Penn Wood, P.A, Montverde Academy, Fla, and Winter Park, Fla).
Winter Park's best player was Austin Rivers, the son of Doc Rivers, the coach of the Celtics. He can do it all and probably has one of the best first steps in the country. I really respect his game, but my team was not going to be denied. That game was for the championship and was televised on E.S.P.N.U. I came into the game early in the 4th quarter for the first time. It's funny, I really wasn't nervous, but I knew I didn't want to make a mistake like turn the ball over. With our team down 45-42 with 6:30 left, Jayon James, who has been taking me under his wing and committed to Fordham Univ., hit me with a pass from the 3 line. I took the shot and knocked it down to tie the game. I was excited, but I really didn't have time to think about it.
I think my shot gave my teammates a lift, because Fuquan [Edwin], Myles [Mack] and Kyle [Anderson] all got busy the rest of the way. When it was over that's when it hit me that I had made a big shot on national television with all my family and friends watching. It felt good to get those calls from them. When we got back home, everyone treated us like we had done something very special, but we know the season has just begun and we want to be recognized as one of the best teams, not only in the sate, but the country. So we understand we have a lot of work to do!
We played in West Virginia on New Years day against Huntington Prep and won a close game in overtime. We have started league play and so far its been easy. Our next big game is in Springfield, Mass. against St. Frances of Maryland. I hope I've gotten you up to date on my season. I really am trying to bet better ans as the year goes on. I hope it shows.
I'd like to shout out Robert Morris guard Karon Abraham, a freshman who is doing his thing. He's an inspiration and when I was young I played on a team with him. Even though I was a baby, he made an effort to get me my first basket in organized basketball. He got me a shot and i made it ! I'll never forget him for doing that! Like a big brother! Peace RC II
