continues to draw big-time recruits to Corvallis. The Oregon State Head Coach got a commitment from 6'7 power forward Devon Collier '10 of St. Anthony's (NJ) tonight according to New Heights Coach Adam Berkowitz. Collier selected the Beavers over Providence, Seton Hall, and St. John's. New Heights Coach Kimani Young recently told me that Collier was down to those four.
Collier is the second member of Oregon State's class of 2010 haul, joining 5'8 point guard Ahmad Starks of Whitney Young (IL). Both players just made it into Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125, with Starks checking in at #111 and Collier sitting at #118. Starks is the 22nd ranked point guard and Collier is #26 amongst power forwards.
Now that Collier, who was ranked #9 in our list of New Jersey's Fab 45 Upperclassmen, is off the board, just 23 players ranked in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125 are still available.
I received a call today from a source with knowledge of the situation today that 6'1 shooting guard Mustafa Jones '10 of Neumann-Goretti (PA) has committed to Hartford. A knockdown shooter and quality student, Jones is the third N-G player to make a college commitment in the past two weeks. Danny Stewart '10, a 6'6 power forward, committed to Rider and 6'1 point guard Tyreek Duren '10 selected La Salle on Monday. Wake Forest-bound Tony Chennault '10, a 6'1 point guard, is the fourth Saint in the class of 2010 headed to a DI school.
Hakeem Harris '10 of Blair Academy (NJ), who actually played AAU ball with Collier and New Heights, recently made his college choice and committed to Columbia. Well, a source close to the situation confirmed to me that the 6'1 point guard has decommitted from the Ivy League program. Harris, who was #39 in New Jersey's Fab 45 Upperclassmen, will be receiving an academic excellence award at the Sharette Dixon Classic on Sunday.
