Kyrie Irving: "I'm Uncommitted"

by Alex Schwartz

An article posted on ZagsBlog late Tuesday night stated that Kyrie Irving '10 of St. Patrick's (NJ) has committed to Duke, but the 6'2 point guard says that is not the case. Irving, who was ranked #6 in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125 and #2 in our list of New Jersey's Fab 45 Upperclassmen, is an avid Twitter user (follow him here) and he utilized that medium to shoot down the commitment rumor. Soon after the report came out, Irving tweeted, "I have not commited [sic] to Duke!!!" He then added in a tweet just one minute later, "I don't know what's going on with these supposed sources but I have not commited [sic] to Duke."

I had the opportunity to briefly catch up with Irving early Wednesday morning, and he confirmed to me that he is indeed still on the board. "Yes, I'm uncommitted," stated Kyrie. Asked whether he plans to take any more visits, Irving said, "I'm not sure about my visits." The Garden State star has already taken official visits to Duke, Texas A&M, and Kentucky. The other two schools on his list are Georgia Tech and Seton Hall. He also stated that he does not have a timetable for his decision and that he still plans to announce his commitment via Twitter.

Although it does seem Irving is not committed to the Blue Devils just yet, it is still expected that he will pledge to the ACC power in the future. In addition, ZagsBlog is a great site that has quality sources, and a commitment may still be coming soon.
