Jason Morris Updates his Recruitment; Odds & Ends
by Alex Schwartz
Jason Morris '10 of Hotchkiss School (CT) has had an up-and-down recruitment to say the least. The 6'5 wing, who was ranked #98 in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125, went from seeing schools such as Villanova, Georgetown, Duke, and UConn involved in his recruitment to watching his stock drop off. Nonetheless, the athletic specimen is still a high-major prospect and has a trio of schools that are the prime ones involved.
"Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Stanford seem to be the main three contenders," stated Morris. When I had spoke to Jason at the AAU Super Showcase in Orlando, he had listed those three plus Georgia as the main schools involved. What happened to the Bulldogs? "I guess they dropped out. [I am] not sure."
Morris, who is originally from Georgia, does not have any favorites, and says he does not have a preference on returning to the South or staying away from the area. "[It] doesn't matter actually," he stated. The New York Gauchos AAU baller informed me that he has already visited Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Stanford, but his trip to Clemson tomorrow will be for his first official.
The high-flier knows when he wants to take his name off the board. "Hopefully before Christmas," he stated. Jason will "probably" be a spring signee.
Here are a couple other recruiting tidbits:
- Dwight Powell '10 of IMG Academy (FL) looks to be the next top-notch prospect to fall. "I make my decision . . . this weekend," stated the Canadian big man via text message. Powell is down to Harvard, Georgia Tech, and Stanford, which is believed to be his leader. The 6'9 center is ranked #38 in the class of 2010 by Northstar Basketball.
- A pair of top 20 prospects in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 from the Northeast will be heading to Kentucky this weekend. Kyrie Irving, a 6'2 point guard from St. Patrick's (NJ) is ranked #6 in the country and 6'8 power forward #17 Tobias Harris of Half Hollow Hills East (NY) will both be at Big Blue Madness in Lexington. The Wildcats are Duke's biggest competition for Irving and have his godfather, Rod Strickland, on staff.
