C. Desrosiers to Wake Forest; I. Azotam to Quinnipiac; W. O'Neal to Robert Morris
by Alex Schwartz
Three of the more underrated recruiters in the nation continue to get it done on the trail. Dino Gaudio of Wake Forest, Tom Moore of Quinnipiac, and Mike Rice of Robert Morris all landed impact recruits in the past few days. For Wake Forest, it was a top 100 player who pledged to the ACC school. Quinnipiac landed a Hoop Group Elite all-star, and Rober Morris picked up a JuCo baller.
Carson Desrosiers '10
of Central Catholic (MA) saw his stock skyrocket over the summer, as the 6'10 big man showcased his perimeter skills. He recently cut his list down to three schools in Marquette, Arizona State, and Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons came into play later than the other two, but made a strong enough impression on the #91 player in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125 that he decided to pledge to the ACC school today, according to Scout. Desrosiers is the fifth member of Wake's elite recruiting class, joining three other players ranked in the top 60 in the class of 2010 by Northstar Basketball, as well as one that would have been top 175-200; #33 Travis McKie, a 6'6 SF from John Marshall (VA), #36 JT Terrell, a 6'3 SG from West Charlotte (NC), #58 Melvin Tabb, a 6'8 PF out of Enloe (NC), and 6'1 PG Tony Chennault of Neumann-Goretti (PA). In fact, the top-notch recruiting class was part of Carson's reasoning for picking Wake Forest. "Can't ignore the top 25 academic rating, and the continuation of the program to build on last year is perfect. [They] already [have] a good 2010 class going in, and I wanted to be a part of that," stated Desrosiers via text.
Ike Azotam '10 from Marianpolis Prep (CT) was outstanding at Hoop Group Elite Camp Session One this summer. In fact, Northstar Basketball ranked him as the #7 performer in camp, tops amongst the Senior All-Star selections, so he is a great get for Quinnipiac, a commitment confirmed by a source close to the situation. Azotam is the second Senior All-Star from that first week of camp to pick the Bobcats, as Raheem May-Thompson—ranked #35—joined the program as a part of the class of 2009. Azotam is a quality get for the NEC school, as he is a strong combo forward who can attack the rim and finish. He joins Dominique Langston in Quinnipiac's solid class of seniors.
Robert Morris picked up Wilbur O'Neal, a 6'6 JuCo center from Harcum Junior College in Pennsylvania, according to a source close to the situation. This will be O'Neal's first season at the national power, having spent his freshman year at Blinn Junior College in Texas. The big-bodied low post player is from Virginia and graduated from National Christian Academy (MD), before heading off to junior college. In addition to his bulk, O'Neal will bring experience to the Colonials, who made the NCAA Tournament in 2009. He is the first member of RMU's class of 2010, though according to another source, Danny Stewart of Neumann-Goretti (PA) could be joining the fold some time in the near future.
