Kyrie Irving Cuts Indiana From Contention

by Alex Schwartz

A very interesting development in the recruitment of 6'2 PG Kyrie Irving '10 of St. Patrick's (NJ) occurred yesterday. Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog got to the bottom of the story and learned that the consensus top 10 player had cut Indiana from his list of seven finalists. The Hoosiers were believed to be the co-favorite to land Irving, along with Duke.

Kyrie did not remove any other schools, publicly at least, from his list, and is still considering a half dozen programs. The Blue Devils are now the heavy favorite, and a commitment from Irving to the ACC school during his official visit would not be a shock. Kentucky is now likely in second place and might be helped the most by the Garden State star eliminating IU.

The Irvings have scheduled official visits to Duke, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech. UConn and Seton Hall are the other two schools under consideration. None of programs should be ruled out just yet, but Duke looks to be in the lead and Kentucky seems to be the school with the second best shot to get Irving, who is the #6 ranked player and #2 PG in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125.
