2009 Summer Shootout Class of 2010 School Lists
I collected a number of school lists from many talented players during the three days that I was at the Summer Shootout at Allentown HS (NJ). I'll be putting the lists into two articles, one for the class of 2010 (this one) and another for the classes of 2011 and 2012. Check out the recruitment statuses of some quality rising seniors:
Matt Lopez ’10, Washington Township (NJ): UNC-Greensboro, La Salle, West Virginia, Penn State, Buffalo, Cornell, Holy Cross, and Delaware
Offers:
UNC-Greensboro, La Salle, Buffalo, Holy Cross, and Delaware
Favorites:
UNC-Greensboro and La Salle are his top two, while West Virginia, Penn State,
and Buffalo—not in order—round out his top five
Notes-
Lopez stated that his decision is “probably going be between” UNC-Greensboro
and La Salle, which are the two schools recruiting him the hardest and that he
talks to the most. Asked if location would be a factor, Matt commented, “No,
not at all. It’s basically which one’s a better fit.”
Ishaq Pitt ’10, Ridge (NJ): America East,
Atlantic-10, and Big East schools mostly (only school he specifically mentioned
was New Hampshire)
Offers: None
Favorites: “It’s wide open. I’m not
really thinking about it yet.”
Note- Pitt, who is originally from
Canada and moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was about three, was at Our
Savior New American (NY) before coming to Ridge this past year.
Montel Walcott ’10, Hyde School (CT): Canisius, Army,
and Drexel
Offers: Canisius
Favorite: Canisius
Wayne Newsom ’10, Piscataway (NJ): Iona, La Salle,
Canisius, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, Bryant, Rider, Niagara, St. Francis (PA),
Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh, American, Fairfield, Army, Delaware, Mount St. Mary’s,
LIU, Boston University, Hofstra, Marist, St. Peter’s, and St. Bonaventure
Offers: Iona, Robert Morris, St.
Francis (PA), Fairfield, Mount St. Mary’s, Marist, and St. Peter’s
Favorites: None
Ty Weaver ’10, Windsor (CT): St. John’s, Marquette,
Temple, UMBC, Rider, Seton Hall, Hartford, and Memphis
Offers: None
Favorite: St. John’s
Notes- Weaver is still just 16
years old—“My birthday is in October, so I’m a grade up.”—and is therefore “looking
to do a post-grad year, going to do a post-grad year.” The other options would
be for him to leave Windsor now and repeat his junior year, which is what he
prefers right now. “I don’t know yet. I’ll know by the end of the summer. It’s
like 50/50, but I think leaving early and reclassifying would be better for me
[than doing a PG year].” Ty is not sure what prep school he would attend.
Willis Nicholson ’10, Cherokee (NJ): Binghamton,
Temple, North Carolina State, Niagara, Rider, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Western
Kentucky, George Washington, Xavier, Clemson, and St. Bonaventure
Offers: Binghamton and
St. Bonaventure
Favorites: None
Note- Nicholson, who transferred to Cherokee from Prep Charter (PA) for
his junior year, could not think of some other schools on his list.
Whis Grant ’10, Plymouth-Whitemarsh (PA): East Strousburg (DII), Widener
(DII), and Hood (DII)
Offers:
None
Favorite: “I
checked out Widener and I liked it and I got to talk to the coach. [That is my
favorite] . . . for right now.”
Note-
Asked if he would be content going DII and not DI, Grant remarked, “I would
like to go DI, but I’m happy with whatever comes. DI is my goal, but if I can’t
make that, I’ll take whatever comes.”
Daveon Boardingham ’10, Shabazz (NJ): Iona, St.
Bonaventure, and Niagara
Offers: Iona and St. Bonaventure
Favorite: “St. Bonaventure as of right now.”
Note- There are other schools recruiting Boardingham
that he could not remember.
Ishmael Kalilou ’10, Windsor (CT): Sacred Heart, Lafayette,
Marist, Army, and Robert Morris
Offers: Sacred Heart
Favorites: “Right now, if I had to pick
one, I’d say Sacred Heart.”
Notes- Kalilou, who has a 3.2 GPA scored
a 1470/2400 on his SAT and has other schools on his list that he could not
remember as well as DII and DIII schools that he is not considering, will be
staying at Windsor for his senior year, but then may do a post-grad year, and
is considering Tilton School (NH) and Choate (CT). “I’m just trying to wait and
see what happens when I get all my options at the end of the year.”
Phil Henry ’10, Cherokee (NJ): Kean (DIII),
Rutgers-Newark (DIII), Central Connecticut State, Brandeis (DIII), York (DIII),
Wilkes (DIII), and St. Lawrence (DIII)
Offers: None
Favorite: Central Connecticut
State
Notes- When I inquired if he would
really consider going the DIII route, Henry responded, “I could consider DIII,
but that’s like a last resort. What I’m mostly looking for is a DI or a decent
DII [school].” If he does not get an offer that fits the bill after this year,
would he possibly go to prep school or JuCo? “I’m not sure, but possibly a prep
school.”
Deshawn Murphy ’10, Hyde School (CT): Sacramento
State, Towson, and New Hampshire
Offers: None
Favorites: Sacramento State and
Towson
Note- Murphy has other schools on
his list that he could not think of.
Ryan Adams ’10, Hun School (NJ): Stonehill (DII), Bentley
(DII), Monmouth, Sacred Heart, Army, Navy, St. Rose (DII), and Bryant
Offers: None
Favorites: “I like Bryant a lot, and Sacred
Heart too.”
Note- Adams, who maintains a GPA of about a
3.1 or 3.2 and has yet to take the SAT or ACT, has already visited Stonehill,
Bentley, Monmouth, Sacred Heart, and Bryant. I inquired if he would seriously
consider going DII and he replied, “Yes, I would if it fits my style of play
and it’s a good program [with] . . . good academics. . . . If it fits the right
needs, I would.”
