Commitment Catch-up; Markus Kennedy to Winchendon
by Alex Schwartz
According to reports from media outlets such as Scout and Rivals, the following are some of the many commitments that have come in the first week after the July Live Evaluation period:
- Dominique Ferguson '10 of Hargrave Military Academy (VA) has committed to Florida International. The 6'8 power forward is a one-time Kentucky commit, who was rated as the #31 player in the nation in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 35. Ferguson is Isiah Thomas' second 2010 pledge, along with Phil Taylor, a point guard from Wheeler (GA). Chris Coleman '11, a big-time rising junior big man, is also committed to FIU.
- Fab Melo '10 of Sagemont School (FL) pulled a shocker when he committed to Syracuse. The #5 player in the Terrific 35 was thought to be a lock for Louisville, but the 6'11 Brazilian chose to head up north instead, joining Dion Waiters, Baye Moussa Kieta, and CJ Fair in a major recruiting class for Jim Boeheim and Co.
- Richard Solomon '10 of Price (CA) has decided to stay in-state and attend Cal. Price is a nice-looking prospect who had a solid showing back at the NBAPA Top 100 Camp. Fellow NBA Camp participant Alex Rossi '10 is also committed to the Golden Bears.
- Rion Brown '10 of Liberty County (GA) has taken his name off the board, picking Miami as his college destination. The wing is Frank Haith's first pledge in the class of rising seniors. The Hurricanes also have commitments in both 2011 and 2012; Yvan Ngirabakunzi '11 and Ismailia Douda '12.
- KT Harrell '10 of Brewbaker Tech Magnet (AL) is bound for Virginia, as is another class of 2010 guard, Joe Harris from Chelan (WA). The duo committed to Tony Bennett on back-to-back days, and join Will Regan '10 in UVA's class.
- Alex Dragicevich '10 from Glenbrook North (IL) won't be going all that far from home next year, as he has chosen to attend Notre Dame. The 6'6 sharpshooter will be going just one state over to play for Mike Brey.
- Naofall Folahan '10 had a very good summer that led him to draw some solid mid-major interest, and he decided that Marist was the school he wanted to attend. A 6'10 center who is originally from Africa, Folahan is a great coup for Chuck Martin and Co. Folahan will be at Wilbraham & Monson (MA) next year.
- One of the top 2011 prospects in the nation, PJ Hairston of Dudley (NC) verbally committed to North Carolina just one day after receiving an offer from the defending national champion. The shooting guard is Roy Williams' first commitment in the class of 2011.
- Another solid 2011 baller, Austin Etherington of Hamilton Heights (IN) has decided to stay in-state. The wing will be attending Indiana upon finishing high school.
- In other news, a big-time 2010 player has decided on his high school for next year. Markus Kennedy, a 6'8 power forward, will be heading to Winchendon School (MA) for his senior year of high school. Kennedy will be onto his fourth high school, as the Villanova-commit, was forced to find a new school for this year after Living Faith (NJ) closed down.
