Summer in the City School Lists- Class of 2010 Part Two
by Alex Schwartz
Here is part two of my Summer in the City school lists:
Branden Frazier ’10, Bishop Loughlin (NY), New Heights:
George Mason, Rutgers, St. John’s, South Carolina, Quinnipiac, Fordham,
Manhattan, and St. Peter’s
Offers: None (Frazier said that St.
Peter’s and Manahattan are “about to offer.”)
Favorites: None
Note- As far as visits are concerned,
Frazier is not sure what he will be doing, saying, “I’m not even sure. I’m
considering taking visits next month, but off the top of my head, I’m not sure
where.”
Antoine Mason ’10, New Rochelle (NY), Metro Hawks:
St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence, Davidson, Texas Tech, Columbia, Yale,
College of Charleston, and Farleigh Dickinson
Offers: None
Favorites: None
Notes- Mason, who has an average in school of around a 92% and has
scored a 1410/2400 on the SAT—he will be taking it again—has some other schools
on his list that he could not think of. Antoine’s father is former NBA player
Anthony Mason, but despite that, he said he does not feel any added pressure
when he walks on the court, though he does get advice. “Yeah, he gives me tips
whenever I come to him. He’ll give me tips during games.”
Will Bartlett ’10, Collegiate School (NY), New Heights:
Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, and Iona
Offers: Columbia
Favorites: “Yeah, I do have a couple
favorites. I’d rather not say [who they are] at this point .”
Notes- Bartlett, who has been at Collegiate
since kindergarten and has about a 3.5 GPA to go along with an outstanding 2210
on his SAT, told me, “I’m hoping some of those Ivy [League schools on the list]
are about [to offer].”
Harold Spears ’10, The Pennington School (NJ), Team NJABC:
Cornell, Columbia, American, Catholic (DIII), and Navy
Offers:
None
Favorites: “No, not as of right now. I’m just trying to look at all my
options.”
Note-
Spears is being recruited for football by Akron (offer), UConn, Michigan State,
Purdue, Maryland, Syracuse, Delaware, Villanova, Harvard, and Lafayette, and is
undecided on which sport he will pursue. “I’m like 50/50 right now. When it
comes to making a decision, my parents [and I] are going to look at every
option [for] football and basketball and choose the best option.” Harold, who
has a 3.7 GPA and would seriously consider DIII Catholic for basketball “if my
parents and I felt it was the best place for me academically and athletically,”
knows why he does not have more football. “I was told that a lot of schools
want to see me play some games my senior year because I’m new to the game.”
Malik Thomas ’10, Wadleigh (NY), New Heights: Eastern
Kentucky, Seton Hall, Siena, Farleigh Dickinson, Hofstra, LIU, Fordham,
Binghamton, George Mason, Quinnipiac, and Drexel
Offers: Hofstra and LIU
Favorites: “I would say Seton Hall because
that’s the first school I visited, and Farleigh Dickinson [too].”
Notes- Since Thomas listed two NJ schools
as his favorites, I asked if he wants to go to school in the Garden State, or
if that’s merely a coincidence, and he replied, “It’s kind of a coincidence,
but FDU’s really after me, and I visited Seton Hall.” As for other visits,
Malik stated, “I’m planning to go to Drexel probably in August. They want me to
come down.” I asked what other schools the wing plans to visit, and he told me,
“I don’t know yet. I’ll just have to wait to see during August.
James Herring ’10, Philips Exeter (NH), Team Lucky NYC:
Dartmouth, Bucknell, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, UPenn, and NJIT
Offers: Dartmouth (Herring also said, “I
wouldn’t be surprised if Bucknell offered after this summer.”)
Favorite: Dartmouth
Note- Herring is doing a post-grad year at
Exeter after graduating from Riverdale Country School (NY).
Frank Mitchell ’10, Hillsborough (NJ), Team NJABC:
Colgate, NJIT, Dartmouth, St. Francis (PA), Holy Cross, Columbia, Caldwell
(DII), U of Sciences in Philly (DII), and Stonehill (DII)
Offers: None
Favorites: “Not really. They’re all even
right now.”
Note- Mitchell who informed me that he is
indeed considering the DII schools on his list, carries an 89% average in
school and scored an 1850 on the SAT.
Kareem Thomas ’10, Christ the King (NY), Metro Hawks:
Iona, Navy, Syracuse, Northeastern, College of Charleston, Lehigh, and Cornell
Offers: None
Favorites: “I like Syracuse. That’s my
favorite right there. Cornell is my second favorite.”
