News & Notes

by Alex Schwartz

- With Andre Dawkins now a part of Duke's class of 2009 instead of 2010, look for the Blue Devils to make an even harder press to land another guard in the class of rising seniors, with Kyrie Irving '10 of St. Patrick's (NJ) the main man. Had Dawkins stayed in the class of 2010, I would have ranked him either #12 or #13, with the latter being more likely, in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 35- Mid-July Edition. Had Dawkins originally been in the class of 09, he would have fallen between #23 and #29, with #27 as a likely spot in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2009 Terrific 35.

- My source on Jordan Hamilton '09 of Dominguez (CA) is keeping me updated on the 6'7 wing's eligibility. The Texas-signee is now on campus for the Longhorns, which is a good sign in Hamilton's quest to be cleared to play this upcoming season. I have yet to hear officially that Hamilton has been cleared, but will be sure to keep you posted.

- According to Gotham Hoops Scouting, Trevon Hamlet '09 of Bishop Loughlin (NY) has committed to Division II Post University. That is a major coup for Post, as Hamlet is a hard-working, tough low post player who certainly could have been a Division I player.

- I first saw it in a tweet from TheHoopGroup that Andrew Nicholas '11 of Eastern York (PA) has committed to Rutgers. Nicholas is a lights-out shooter and is the first commit for the Scarlet Knights in the class of 2011.

- Numerous outlets have reported that Josh Selby '10 of Lake Clifton (MD) has de-committed from Tennessee. Selby, who I ranked as the #6 player in the class of 2010—be sure to check out those rankings—is the second point guard to de-commit from the Volunteers. Aaron Craft '10 was at one time committed to the SEC school, but backed out and pledged to Ohio State. Look for schools such as Memphis and Kentucky to make strong pushes to land Selby. Memphis has commitments from Selby's cousins Antonio Barton '10 and Will Barton '10. The only problem there though is that Antonio is a PG, and the Tigers are also the odds-on favorite to land Joe Jackson '10, another PG ranked in the top 10 regardless of position by yours truly. Only time will tell what happens.

- It looks as though Khalil Murphy '09 of APEX Academies (NJ) is headed to prep school. The 6'7 combo forward was at Hoop Group Elite Camp and also has been on the AAU circuit with Sports University (NJ).
