Matt Brown to Harvard; Mike Terry to Boston U

by Alex Schwartz

I received a call today from a source close to the player that Matt Brown '10 of Northfield Mt. Hermon School (MA) had committed to Harvard. Brown, a football star too, committed to Tommy Amaker and the Crimson basketball program. Brown, who had a great showing at the 09 Providence Jam Fest, was receiving some BCS-level interest in both sports. This is a huge coup for the Ivy League school, and Brown has the game and the body to be a major impact player in that conference. Brown, who runs with Mass Rivals for AAU ball, clearly cares about academics a great deal, as he spurned higher-level programs to attend Harvard.

Not that long after hearing about Brown's pledge, I received a call from another source informing me that Mike Terry '10 of North Catholic (PA) had taken his name off the board. Terry, a talented guard from the Philadelphia Catholic League school, has pledged to Boston University. Terry is the first recruit for new BU Head Coach Pat Chambers, who has Philly ties. Chamber is the former coach at Episcopal Academy (PA) and then, most recently, at Villanova.

Once again, a pair of commitments that were both first reported by Northstar Basketball via Twitter (follow me at NorthstarBball), Matt Brown has selected Harvard and Mike Terry has committed to Boston University.
